    7.5x55 Swiss reloading dies

    Hello folks,

I am going to be reloading 7.5x55 for a K31 and possibly other Swiss rifles if I am able to acquire them, such as model 1911 or 1896/11. I was researching Hornady dies to purchase and I have come across a few different ones. Does anyone know the difference between Hornady custom series III and custom series IV dies? I have attached pictures and would like your guys thoughts. I was thinking the K31 dies but I am curious if those dies would work for the older Swiss rifles. Also I don't know what Swiss OR is. Any insight would help.

    Thanks in advance.

    John

The K31 chamber is a bit bigger than the 1911 chamber.

Redding sells K31-specific dies which work the brass less.

Standard dies will work for both.

If you do only have a K31, I would get the Redding dies. If in the future you do pick up a 1911, then get the other sizer.

In fairness, people actually using the standard dies for a K31 report there is no observed need for the special die.

    Up to you.

Pay the money and buy the Redding dies for this cartridge. That is the best way to go.
A 30cal will reach out and touch them. A 50cal will kick their butt.

I have a Hornady lock n load press. The Redding dies won't work right?

They will work just fine. So would RCBS, Lyman and others including lee if you must. They are all the same thread and you put them into the lock-n-load adapter just like the Hornady ones.

RCBS p/n 33501, 7.5 Schmidt-Rubin, is the FL die set that you need to get if you plan to load for the K31 and 1911-chambered rifles, 96/11 or 1911 Long Rifle.

Get yourself a 96/11 and don't look back, beautiful rifles.

Oh yeah, segregate your brass lot, learned it the hard way

I notice different people recommending different brands. Is the main difference quality of the die?

Brand loyalty, same question can be asked for the brand of gasoline that you use

However, if you plan to load for Schmidt-Rubin chambered rifles and the K31, just get the RCBS die and keep your brass lot segregated.

Lee dies are the best value, their fit and finish is not as nice as the others, but that has not made any difference to me.

Hornady dies are nice, they have an interesting seating sleeve which I am not sure makes much difference, but hey it can't hurt.

RCBS has a nearly religious following, their dies are nice, but they are a bit overrated. Redding and Forster are nicer yet, but you pay for that.

Any of them will work perfectly well. I have Lee, Hornady, RCBS and Redding. I will continue to buy them all as appropriate.

I went with the Redding for the K-31. They really are nice dies.

Like GBA above, I have a mix of Redding, RCBS and Lee dies for all of the calibers I load. My 7.5x55 dies are RCBS, and they work fine for my two K31s - I do not own a 1911 or 96/11.
