    Brass capture?

    The way CA government is shaping up I'm more and more leaning toward reloading. It's either that or taking up black powder.. .. .

    My CZ flings casings a good 6-8 feet so identifying "my" brass could be troublesome. Combined with 9mm casings dropped by other shooters what is the accepted range etiquette with regard to collecting your spent brass?

    Thanks.

    Depends on the range.

    Indoors: don’t go forward of the booth. Don’t be at peoples feet. Some ranges might say you can’t but it’s your brass. And you don’t have to shoot their

    Outdoor: same. Watch out for the recyclers. Gotta tell them to go away. They will crawl under tables while you are shooting.

      You can use a ruler & sharpie across the back of case over the primers to mark your brass. If I'm picking up more brass than my own, I'll check with those around me to see if they mind me picking up their brass.

        ^^^^^--> This.

        I do most of my shooting at an unsupervised range that gets picked clean every day, but most of the picking, whether by me or someone else, gets done when no one else is around.

          There are also devices out there that will take a sharpie and draw a line around the outside of the brass.

          As for other people's brass, ask first or if your neighbor is sweeping their station ask them if they can put into your container or bag.

              Caldwell (I think) makes a collapsable brass catcher net that you can mount to a tripod and position to catch most of your brass. It keeps your brass clean, it keeps your brass yours, it keeps you from stooping over to sort through brass.

                I watched a guy use a baseball cap as a brass catcher (AR-10 or 15 - don't remember now.) He was shooting a bipod; he'd get behind the scope, get the rifle on target using his strong hand, then hold his cap up in his off-hand while squeezing off the shot. A little flip deposited the case onto the bench. Amusing, but I was also surprised at how effective it was. Cheap brass catcher.

                Of course, if your CZ is a bolt gun, just hold your off-hand in front of the ejection port as the bolt is withdrawn (or use a cap. Whatever.)

                  Just ask the guys near you if you can have their brass. Or if you dont want it, and are attempting to only get your brass, go for it without asking (so long as you're not in their personal space).

                  If I want my brass back, I usually sweep up my area more often. Otherwise someone will sometimes come behind you and push your brass forward because they think it's "helping."
