    RCBS Primer Swager

So I recently got some range brass in 30-06 that had crimped primers. So I bought the RCBS swager 2. It has been doing the job but I am wondering if my technique is proper.
I followed the instructions and lowered the die incrementally until the primer pocket was back to the correct dimension. However, I found that the best way to remove the case from the swager was to allow the momentum on the downswing to extract the case. Lowering it slowly and pressing hard on the handle worked but was difficult.
Also I found that it was best to use my chamfer and deburring tool to dress the primer pocket for easier primer installs.

The best would be to get the Dillon Super-Swager. I had the RCBS unit and I can tell you the Dillon is easer and faster. I end up doing a lot of 223 brass I get from the range and also some 308 or 30-06. You will not need to do any cutting with the Dillon.
A 30cal will reach out and touch them. A 50cal will kick their butt.

Be sure to check the primer pocket for brass from removing the crimp use a dental pick to remove it if it wont tap out. Don't dress to much of that primer pocket with your debur tool. Military brass primer seating can take a good feel or you can trim a primer or slightly crush it. Learn to feel the primers as you seat them. HTH

The RCBS swager 2 did not work so well with my Reddding Big Boss II press. Gave it to a friend who has RC press - hey, works well with that press.

I used to use the deburring tool then upgraded to the RCBS primer pocket reamer. That's a good tool - gives the primer pocket a very good bevel. If you don't process a lot of brass, this is a good tool.

If you need to do bulk processing, Dillon 600 Swager!

I've not used the Dillon swager. The RCBS does the job, but it's too slow and difficult to use. The Dillon is probably faster and easier to use.

I bought the carbide crimp cutter for my RCBS Case Pro. It does a great job and is really fast. Only takes a few seconds per case. The drawback is its a little hard on the my hands and fingers pressing the case on to the cutter.

Thanks for the advice guys. I was watching youtube and several people say to lube the swager, but I figured that would only tempt fouling a primer.

If you wet tumble. Oil the swagger.

If you media tumble. You will need a small bucket of lacquer thinner to rinse out the primer pockets after swaging with oil.

              It makes a big difference.

I have the RCBS, and recently found a lightly used Dillon. The Dillon is easier to use, but the key is to use a gage to set either one so you do not over or under swage the pocket. You can find one here:

Online retailer of fully processed 300 Blackout brass, 5.56 brass, and case gauge tools such as the Swage Gage and Sheridan Gauges.

I quit using the CH-4D and RCBS swagers a long time ago and just use the chamfer tool in a drill.
