If you only plan to buy 1 lb of powder and a 100 count primers, yeah, locally will do the trick if you don't shoot that much.
Still buying online is the way to go.Comment

Do you have a friend to split shipping with? Can help minimize cost. If you shoot matches, ask the guy running the match if he can get out powder and primers. Some matches will get wholesale bullet pricing, I used to pay $80ish for 500 SMK bullets. Miss having that connect for sure!Comment

Just to put it in perspective...buying 8# of whatever powder will run you 200ish depending. Can order online for 150 maybe less. Tack on primers at 2.5 cents each and you could still pay hazmat and come out less than buying in small batches. Just saying. Save even more if you load more than one cartridge.
But I understand the impulse. That hazmat fee is good for up to 48 lbs (right?).Comment

There is a $19.95 HazMat fee at Powder Valley.
1 Lbs. of H4831SC is $24.95 online and $30.99 at Second Amendment in Bakersfield.
That $6+ per pound price difference per pound means one 8 Lbs. jug of powder would be $48 less + sales tax of 17.98 = $66
With the $19.95 Hazmat fee that leaves you about $46 for shipping cost to break even. Buy 10 Lbs of powder and 10,000 primers and you'll probably save over $100.Frank

Seems like about every 3-4 months Brownells runs their 1 cent hazmat/shipping deal. That’s a good time to stock up.
I think it’s Grafs that runs $10 hazmat & 7.95 per order shipping. Not too bad if you’re ordering a decent amount of stuff. Equivalent to paying sales tax locally if they aren’t collecting it online yet.Unbiased AR15, Barnard (sold

You need to add two resources to your internet bookmark list. Ammoseek.com and gunbot.net. They're search engines that scrape vendor sites for prices. I got an outstanding deal on rifle powder last year that was good enough to keep two varmint rifles supplied for a couple of years.Comment
