    Reloading help bfr 45-70.

I have a bfr 45-70 coming and want to order some bullets for reloading, i have never reloaded 45/70 and am a beginner in reloading. I have a lee turret press.
Which of these 50 count boxes bullets would you choose? I already purchased some 405gr bullet from sportsmans warehouse.
    thanks for any help.

Well... in your reloading manual, what bullet weights and profiles does it list for this caliber? Buy whatever is closest to those so that you know you have reliable load data. Especially if you're a new reloader

        BIG FREAKIN REVOLVER

Actually Big Frame Revolver , but that sounds lame after you fire one.

I cant help with revolver loads, I shoot 45-70 but in a Marlin rifle. I would start with a lighter bullet around 300 grains and work up. It looks like a great weapon but I suspect recoil is going to be interesting. Good luck.

Use a light bullet and a light powder charge for the pistol. There is no data for the pistol that I can quickly think of. The pistol and rifle data would be the same. I would suggest level 1 (trapdoor) loads. 5744 powder is one to look at.
A 30cal will reach out and touch them. A 50cal will kick their butt.

I said i was a new reloader, yes, but i have reloaded other cartridges, I fail to see the difference in reloading a 223 vs 45/70. The process is still the same.

not that but you do know that a 45/70 even at low end will kick harder than a 44 mag right.

I love recoil, i highly doubt it will kick harder than my savage striker bolt action pistol in 308!

If it were mine I'd start with 300 grain bullets and work up from there I do have a few boxes of 500 grain hard cast loaded those are fun in my Sharps.

Look into the loads for the TC Contender pistol . Have one and I can tell you from experience that it is a handful , even in a big handgun.

They are literally a blast , used to clear the benches when she went off , ever see the dust cloud a cannon kicks up ? That and the fireball

5744 is a great powder. It was designed for large volume cases with low percentage fills. I have used it in my 45-70 C-Sharps and it works well from light trapdoor loads all the way up to stout lever gun loads. It has a very wide range..
