I am looking for a load to use on my 240 grain, cast lead SWC (about 18-20 hardness) I want 1000 fps or under for pleasant target work without leading and without using a gas check. I stock #2400 powder ( that I use on my hotter loads) and Unique. Do any of you guys have any recommended loads that will fit the bill? Thanks in advance.

I cast a Keith design 250 gr bullet that does not have a gas check and is very hard. Eleven grains of Unigue pushes the bullet to 1100 fps from my 5.5 inch bbl Redhawk, and it will shoot one-hole groups at 25 yards. I also load that bullet to 1400+ fps using WW 296.Never argue with a fool, onlookers may not be able to tell the difference. So said somebody but not Mark Twain

I load with Titegroup for low recoil cast and plated, using the Hodgdon database.

For plinking ammo I load a 200 gr lead bullet over a small charge of bullseye. Its somewhere between 44 special and 44 magnum, but loaded in magnum cases. It shoots great, doesn't lead, and makes for fun shooting all day. When I want to shoot some real heavy loads, I use H110 and 240 gr hi tek coatedComment

I am using 6.2 gr Trailboss with the same bullet. That came from Hodgdon's Cowboy data, which is usually just the minimum load from their standard data listing. I wondered if you have any up-to-date manuals to answer such questions.I am looking for a load to use on my 240 grain, cast lead SWC (about 18-20 hardness) I want 1000 fps or under for pleasant target work without leading and without using a gas check. A big part of not leading a barrel is bullet fit. Slug your cylinder throats, cast and size appropriately, then play with load data.I am looking for a load to use on my 240 grain, cast lead SWC (about 18-20 hardness) I want 1000 fps or under for pleasant target work without leading and without using a gas check.
