    Resizing help requested

I just got a set of used 223 dies. The Full Length resizing die is marked rcbs 223 FL V. What does the V mean?
But that's not the problem... When adjusted to touch the shellplate, 7 out of 10 cases have a dent on or just below the shoulder. If I turn it enough to stop the denting,1/2 turn up,(1/16" above the shellplate) The cases stick in my AR's chamber due to the die not resizing near the casehead. When adjusted 1/4 turn down after touching the shellplate, The shoulder is deformed. I'm puzzled and getting really tired of wasting brass.

Hydraulic dents from the lube or some other kind of dent?? Might be a die issue if it isn't from the lube. Any pics??

I don't think I was using too much lube. Just a little dip. (of lube) I'll try a light brushing.

those are lube dents for sure. I only lube about 3 at a time, then start picking up brass out of the box with my hand that has the lube on it.
If you size slow you can feel when you don't have enough lube as it will start to stick all you have to do is stop and back up and add a little more lube.

also I can hear it when I get lube dents it makes a sound like when your with your wife in the bedroom

now when you get into doing lager cal like 30.06 you have to be carfull you can get a stuck case before you know it. don't ask

How do you know what it sounds like when he is with his wife in the bedroom?

I put them in a plastic grocery bag. One squirt of the dillon lube is about enough to do 50-100 cases. I just squirt in the bag, close the bag, and rub them all around in there. Then I stand all the casings up and give them one light squirt at an angle, then one squirt the opposite way at an angle to get the inside of the necks.

Thanks guys. Had a couple stuck already. It was tuff to get them apart.
All this lube, noise, and squirting... I never expected an X-rated ammo post!

Get some Imperial sizing wax. Rub a mimimal amount of wax on the case, about as much as you'd apply to your lips with lip balm. Your cases won't dent and won't get stuck. Best of all, you'll have alot less mess.

The real friction is happening near the bottom of the case. Just put some vegetable oil on a rag and roll you cases back and forth across it a few times. You can lube lots at once this way. And dirt sticks to the rag and doesn't end up in your dies.

definately too much lube. either use much much less or try imperial sizing wax - you can't you too much of this stuff but it is more labor intensive to apply.

If it was a hanging chad I demand a recount!
I have the same dies and never have I experienced dents due to over lubing the casings. I use the standard RCBS lube pad and RCBS water based lube. I roll the casings over the pad lightly and they are good to go. It dosen't take alot of lube to size the casings. Also remove the decapping pin and get a flashlight and look up in the die and see if there is an obstruction. After sizing sessions I always clean and wipe down the dies to keep them clean and free of any debris.

i throw a bunch of cases in a gallon ziplock freezer bag add a finger dollip rub them around then start sizing with my greasy hand then when i am done i put them on a white teeshirt rub them around and the vasaline vanishes its amazing of course i handle them a bit more when trimming

I highly recommned using a gage of some sort when you set your die (I like the Hornady comparitor). 1/16 of a turn on that die makes a huge difference in how much the shoulder is being pushed and this will have a large impact on case life.
