    Tumbling Hunting Rounds After Loading

Never gave anything but HPBTs a tumble, but i wonder if tumbling any sort of "hunting" round, i.e. Accubonds or similiar are okay? Just curious if the tumbling will have any affect on the polymer tips of the bullets...
    Thanks.

I would never tumble a live round on purpose (I did a 223 once on accident and could not figure out why I couldn't get all the media out of the case that's when the tip of the bullet showed a little :-( )
Q: What was the most positive result of the "Cash for Clunkers" program?
A: It took 95% of the Obama bumper stickers off the road.

My understanding is that tumbling live ammo can change the burn rate of the powder inside. You may go *BOOM*.

      I wouldn't do it.

thanks for the advice guys. I've tumbled rifle rounds after seating just to get the lube off before shooting. I guess i'll just use a rag or something instead. definitely dont want any "KABOOMS" to happen here...

I do it all the time (tumble) after reloading my rifle rounds. About a half hour is all it takes to remove the fingerprints and get them all shiny and bright.

You're not going to degrade the powder in a half hour in a tumbler, imo.

Read this about tumbling loaded ammo...

According to the test, tumbling did not break down the powders. And I doubt there is enough energy in a vibratory tumbler to set off the primer.

I tumble my loaded ammo for an hour after loading.

I usually tumble all of my reloaded ammo for about 15 - 20 minutes to clean lube off. Stop and think about how banged & bumped military ammo gets after being shipped, flown, driven across bumpy roads, and so on before it gets shot.

I tumble some ammo ofter loading as well. Get any fingerprints, lube, etc off. 30 minutes is plenty.

Tumbling after reloading really cleans up the rounds. I started doing it after talking to a commercial reloader at a gun show, he said they tumble all their loaded ammo in a cement mixer with corncob and liquid car wax...keeps the brass from tarnishing. 30 min. works for me.
