    12 ga Reduce Shot Load

I found a small bucket of high power shotgun shells in the back of my ammo closet. 1 1/4 oz of #7 1/2. I will never shoot these. My shoulder just won't take the abuse.

Considering cutting the star crimp off and reducing the load to 7/8 oz. for plinking. Then using overshot card and roll crimp to reclose. Rather than attempt to pry the star crimp open.

Thoughts? Experience? (sound of buckling chin strap)

    ><

Trade or give them away....no need to mess around with slow burning powder and try to make 7/8oz loads when none exist in any reloading manual

    Not worth it

Need to buy a Beretta A300. I hear they shoot pretty soft.

      You're welcome.

But yeah...what Feeder said. Wrong powder for 7/8oz and just a lot of work to rework. The only other suggestion is salvage the shot.

Give them to someone who will shoot them.

Give them away or trade them (whichever is legal according to California law).

I got some old 1-5/8oz lead 12ga shells from someone on this board a while back. Those things kicked hard.

Reducing high power payload with the same powder could lead to a really smokey/sooty shot with inconsistent velocity. The powder type and charge depends on the weight of the payload to build up pressure. A lighter payload should use a faster powder to burn completely and cleanly.

i would disassemble and re-use the lead and primer to reload something more pleasant to shoot -- or give away.

I'm sure a Pot Shooter will trade you out for some 7/8 or 1 oz.

Those are good quail loads and for club chukar. Sell them. Or trade for 3/1/8 loads
