RE15 in 223

I need load data for RE15 in 223. Using a 55gr FMJBT bullet and shooting it out of a 16" AR with 1:9 twist...I have 2 different manuals and have looked on the errornet and see that 26.0gr seems to be a good load, but that is filling the case near max and I would like to have a little more space in the case without changing my seating depth...Does anybody know the min's and max's...powder is not listed in RCBS or Lyman's as a load for 55gr bullets errornet only listed suggested charges not the entire spectrum min-max...help

Just compress the load, many loads in different cartridges use compressed loads.

After some extensive research..... RL15 is not a good powder for 55gr 223 load... (that's also the reason why you don't see it listed in many reloading resource).

You would not be able to get optimal performance even if you fill to 100%+ case capacity + compressing the powder

I have a link talking about it, and I think the 77gr 223 reloading sticky touched on it too.... search for and read them...

PS. some other powder recommendation: H335, Win748, Ramshot X-terminator comes to mind

R15 is a bit too slow for optimum performance with 55gr bullets. Basically you're going to end up filling the case up to the base of the neck with R15 and seating a bullet on top.

RS-Xterminator, W748, H335 will give you more velocity with less powder.

ok, thanks for the replies...it was what was available from the store...will try some other powders as they come in.....

Also this powder was suggested as a cheaper alternative powder than using Varget.. I ended up using 26.0 gr as a load...I have seen 27 and even 28 gr's as a max...will let you know how it does....

If your powder is too slow you usually get a heck of a good muzzle flash though!

Actually, you need to experiment to find what powder and bullet combination your rifle likes. For example, my Savage 110 in .243 loves 4064 and 85 grain Sierra HPBT and I can get a five shot 1 hole group at 100 yards. It does not like ball-C the one time I tried it. I got about 2 feet of muzzle flash from the unburned powder and the accuracy sucked. Try different combos using a good reloading manual.

People talk about reloading for cost, but I think the biggest benefit is accuracy.

24.3 gr of RL15 + 75HPBT kicks butt at 600-800 yards in .223Rem. Its my load for long-range matches. I think 27GR +55gr is the max load, but of course its already maxed out for the cartridge. Get some other powder for 55gr, or get some 75+gr .223 bullets for the load.
