    Need help with projectile ID

I need help identifying some tips a pal gave me.

    7.62
    150gr (claimed)
2 cannelures with lines sloping to the right, the upper band is slightly narrower than the lower.
    Boat tail
    lead visible in the base

Any idea what this stuff was originally?

"Tips".... sorry, projectiles, not completed cartridges. Pulled, from what I can tell.

taking a guess from something I read awhile ago but i think they are meant for 30-06 AND 308. the two cannelures rings give you the flexibility to load and crimp for either caliber. think I saw info on the FALfiles.com if you search their ammo/reloading forum.

I saw that, too. Sticks to a magnet pretty well, though. Steel cased?

            m61

those are probably demilled m61. They have steel "penetrator" inside the copper jacket, and sealed with led at the rear. Good for plinkin, accuracy is very poor. The weight warries quiet a bit, as well as they might've been deformd a liitle during de-miling.

Cut one up and there is a steel core. So, maybe it is the M61 after all. Is it inaccurate by its nature, or just by way of its demilling procedure?

                  m61

Never shot factory loaded m61 so I don't know if it is inaccurate by its nature, or from de-milling. I've tried sorting them by weight, and still couldn't do better than 2" groups at 100 yards. So I gave up on making a precision load and loaded 1000 rounds just in case those zombies would wear body armor. I've also used disposable brass (brass that was reloaded many times but still in good shape). My Vepr is very hard on brass so I use disposable brass for it.

Gray, you are ABSOLUTELY RIGHT. So, I took a pic, but my micro SD adapter has gone MIA. I'll see about getting one and present some clarification for the few that are interested.
