    Magnetospeed Sporter POI shift

I am looking at buying either a Magnetospeed Sporter or the Caldwell Precision Chronograph.

I am hesitant to pull the trigger on the Magnetospeed for three reasons (in order of importance):

    1. POI shift when the unit is attached. "Some" people have indicated that it shifts... looking for any first hand users to confirm/deny.

    2. Inability to use on handguns.

    3. Price. Caldwell Premium Kit is basically half-priced in comparison.

On the rifle side, I would like to chrono rounds and accuracy test them at the same time. POI shift would definitely defeat that.

I handload for both rifle and pistol and would be using is frequently for both. No pistol for Magnetospeed

I shot outdoors, usually in sunny weather, so lighting and setup is not a concern...

BUT, the accuracy and easy of use of the Magentospeed keeps drawing me back in...

    First hand experiences?

    Thanks!!

I tend to focus on value for money so the way I'd look at this is, the additional cost of a Magnetospeed is probably higher than the cost of the extra rounds I have to shoot if I do speed and accuracy testing separately. I'm not a precision shooter so when it comes to measuring muzzle velocities, pretty close is good enough for my purposes.

I have a Caldwell. It can be flaky at times but the price was right and it works well enough.

      When I Chrono I Chrono

When I sight in I sight in.

It really isn't that surprising that you would get a shift in impact when you strap something to the end of the barrel...…

FOr me old school like the Caldwell or a Shooting Chrony are good enough.
If you want change you have to put in your 2 cents, you can't just sit on the sidelines and whine.

Why aren't you buying the Labradar?

It will do everything you want and give you velocities out to 120 yards. You can even use it for you bow

My wife thinks I only have 3 guns

Can make a mount like this to get it off the barrel.

I made a similar mount for my magnetospeed v3 and no longer get poi shift, I did on my 6mm creedmoor RPR when strapping to barrel.

The V3 can be used on handguns with a rail using the rail mount adaptor.
