    Single Stage Press

What would your preference would be for a single stage press to go along side a Dillon 550 to perform specialty tasks and loading rifle rounds.

I have a little way to go budgeting for the Dillon 550 I want. It will be something I want to have anyway and as others have suggested a good way to get my feet wet.

I don't need a kit, I have manuals, multiple scales, funnels, etc. I use for shotshells.

I was looking at the Lee's with the quick change bushings but some say to stay away from Lee, not sure that applies to their single stage presses. I don't mind used either, lot's of stuff on ebay, just want something solid.

    Thanks

The top single stage press out there for high quality rifle rounds is the Forster Co-Ax. They have their own shell holder system so you don't have to buy shell holders, and you can prime on the press. The one downside is you can't put a powder measure or other tools other than dies into the press. But thats only a small downside if you want to run a dropper that way.

The next two presses I would call equal. Just a matter of if you want green or red, or what you can find the best deal on. The RCBS Rock Chucker or the Hornady Classic. I think the classic handles spent primers a bit better, and I like LNL bushing system much better than the Lee. You can convert a Rock Chucker to use the LNL bushing system however, but that comes at an extra cost.

So you want the best, Forster, you want the best bang for your buck, Hornady or RCBS.

^^^^^^^^^^^ that's the way to go.

Brownells might still have the Forster on sale. Added coupon gets free shipping.
Been gone too long. It's been 15 to 20 years since i had to shelf my guns. Those early years sucked.
I really miss the good old Pomona Gun Shows.

I have a Rockchucker and ave used it to load somewhere between 1500 and 2,000 rounds of .223, .243 and .30-06 over the last 12 months. Other than not being a fan of the way it handles spent primers I'm pretty happy with it, especially since it was give to me along with some accessories.

There's even one for sale over in the Private Reloading Sale forum: http://www.mobile.calguns.net/calgun....php?t=1483482

RCBS Rockchucker Supreme. I have Rockchucker II. I’ll have the press till I can’t load no more. I’m a low volume loader so it suites my need. It’s a solid press.

                I would go to forum
                Private Reloading Sales
See how many Lee's are for sale compared to other presses .
There is a reason very few of anything Lee is for sale .
                Me - a loadmaster , " C " and" O " frames , hand frame and
Lee hand loader for 14 calibers [ my 25 ACP was borrowed
                and never returned ]
Yes , I have probably replaced everything except the paint on
loadmaster and Lee has 3 different types of shell holders .
Not real found of the bushings - while others set and forget ,
I set and check after a few cartridges . After no more than 300 ,
I clean and reset dies .
My advise is buy cheap and then upgrade if you don't like .
Get at least 2 of everything - something breaks and you don't
want to wait for shipping .
If you want Dillon then stick with them . Just be aware that they
have a lot of stuff back ordered , out of stock and / or hard to find .
                An example - 25 ACP , 50 AE , 32 acp . I have not checked lately
but - they did not have when I needed .

Rock Chucker, still going strong after 39 years. I put an Inline handle on it with a foam handle sock from Exile Machine, so soothing on my old arthritic hands.

I have a rock chucker, with the LNL bushing setup. No problems in 25 years with it. I don't know that going to the classifieds and seeing what's f/s is a good gauge of what people like/don't like. Could be like cars; you see so many Chevrolet impalas for sale because they made so damn many of them, not necessarily because people don't like them.

I load all of my rifle rounds on an RCBS rock chucker, bullet proof. Just picked up another one used from a buddy. Plus they color match my RCBS Pro 2000 progressive press. Plus they have great customer service.

Convert your 550 to a single stage.

Aside from a bit of sticker shock. Take a look at a Redding T7. You may find you don't want/need a progressive.

+1 just do this, then you can bust out some more ammo. At this stage, time is money for me. So 650 for all the non precision stuff. 550 for precision with the single stage adaptor.

Then two Chargemasters rocking while I seat bullets
