    22 K-Hornet reloading questions

Have a couple of questions concerning .22 K-Hornet.
I am new to this caliber and fairly new to reloading. I have a new
K-Hornet barrel coming in for my TC G2. So, here are my two questions.

    1. Who makes the better shell holder, Redding, RCBS, Hornady or Lee?

    2. Since I can't order ammo online anymore, I will have to make my own. From what I read, Nosler is the best brass for 22 Hornet.
But! Nosler says that this brass is "raw" and requires sizing and trimming before use.

Do I need to also buy a regular 22 Hornet Full Length sizing die to size and trim the 22 Hornet brass BEFORE I fire form it to 22 K-Hornet?

Or, should I just trim the 22 Hornet brass and then fire form it to K-Hornet?

Any time you fireforming brass it gets shorter so if it chambers I wouldn't waste time trimming it until you shoot it.
If it doesn't fit you have no choice.
The charge weight is very small so keep the tolerance to a minimum and your all set. If you go +- 0.2 grains it will show on your targets.

When I fireform K-Hornet Brass, I used a moderate powder charge with a standard 55gr FMJ Bullet. I size the new brass in a Redding K-Hornet FL sizer before loading just to true up the cases and straighten out the necks. I seat the bullet to touch the rifling so I get minimum headspace and prevent firing pin setback.

Thank you so much for the replies and info.

For fire forming I came upon two recipes, tell me what you think.

        12.2 - 12.5 grains IMR4227 with 45 grain projectile or
2 grains bullseye and toilet paper(?).

I have a lot of powder choices here at home, but neither of these
"old school powders". I can, of course, order these in.

Oh, and yes I have already ordered the Redding "Deluxe" die set.

        Lemme know what you think.

          1. Shellholder won't matter.
Get the same kind that the rest of your shellholders are so they all match and you can use one shellholder chart.
I happen to use mainly RCBS, but I do have a few sets of Redding Comp Shellholders but those are more specialized.

          2. Just size with the K-Hornet sizer.
Don't trim until after it's fire formed unless the cases are too long to fit into your chamber.
If that's happens, trim ONLY ENOUGH to just barely fit into the chamber.
They will shrink during fire forming.
