.22 Short...Worthless?

I have an old Beretta Minx that fires .22 short. I have always considered it pretty worthless in the defense department. However, I just saw some CCI .22 short hollow points. They have a muzzle velocity of 1,100 fps and muzzle energy of 73 ft lbs. Do you think that would be any good for SD in a pinch?

A shot between the eyes would probably kill a person, but if your life is on the line, go with a .45

if you could get the bullet placed so it would enter the CNS then you might get a kill... otherwise I'd say get a more traditional SD pistol caliber or better yet a shot gun

now that .22 short could be pretty good for killing rabbits so its still not worthless

'Twas used to kill steers at stockyards and .22 short was the original backup caliber for officers...

I'd say it would work just fine if put between the eyes...

In a pinch, any gun is better than nothing. Aim for the eyes

22 shorts in a rifle make a good pest gun, makes very little sound.

22 has been used for assassinations for years.I saw the autopsy photos of an 'accidental' death of a 9yr old boy via a 22 to the brain by a juvi delinquent, we all were positive it was intentional but couldn't prove it, no witneses and the perp stuck to his story .22 cb caps are fatal for digger squirrels & other varmints.
