    Bullet Sizing Question

I have several Rapine press through bullet sizing dies. I find these simple dies very useful. Does anyone know if someone else makes similar "primitive" sizing dies. I want to size cast bullets to load .45/70 for a rifle. Lead slugs measure .458".

Is it practical to polish out a Lee sizing die from .457" to .459"? Thanks.

I have opened up several Lee sizing dies. Easy to do. The last one I did was for my new Marlin 1895CB in 45-70. I also went from .457' to .459". I may take it up to .460".

I used a wooden dowel with 400 gr wet or dry sandpaper. Some light machine oil.

Take your time and check occasionally.

    Best of luck,

    Steve in N CA

I have never heard of polishing as a way to re-size things.
Polishing should not be adjusting the dimensions if you are doing it right.

I can open up a 0.457" sizer to a custom size on the sunnen hone though.
Honing is how you make precisely sized round internal holes.

I went to the Lee Precision site again. Under the tab "Bullet Casting", under sizing dies, there is a paragraph concerning custom work. Apparently Lee makes size .458" and .459" sizing dies but only sells them through Track of The Wolf. I didn't expect to find steel dies under bullet casting but I guess it makes sense.

Have you looked at NOE push thru sizers?

Let Randall do it for you. It won't cost a lot and it will be correct when he hands it back to you
