    Winchester White Box 5.56

I bought a bunch of this stuff today, and I took it home and when I pulled out a cartridge, I shook it, and from my experience, when you shake 5.56 ammo, you can't really here the powder move, but with .223 you can easily here it. When I shook the ammo, I could easily hear it.

So my question is, is this ammo really 5.56? or is it .223 under the disguise of 5.56?

    Thanks!

Powder comes in different volumes based upon different factors. So depending upon which powder is used or which grain bullet there may be more or less empty volume in the case.

It's normal. All my XM193, Q3131A, and Winchester M855 has enough space that you can hear the powder when you shake it.

What is your box labeled, BTW?

let me expand on joelogic's comments.

Ammo manufactures do not always use the same power each time they make a run of a particular caliber and load. They know a few factors they try to replicate, but Winchester does not for example always load their 5.56 rounds with x amount of 748. just an example.

which leads us to joe's comments about different volumes of different powders.

Winchester white box is good stuff. I can't think of any reason you should be able to use it with confidence.

Sport's Authority in Gilroy had those on sale - I've shot them - worked OK. Haven't really started shaking the ammo until I started reloading - didn't notice with that ammo to be truthful but it shot OK.

What is the sale price and how long is the sale for? Thanks!

woop woop woop noob alert!! jk

must be new into ammo ehh?
2 main powders, ball and stick, stick takes up more room and is usually whats used in rifle ammo. ball is like sand and fills the case better and uses less room therefore you hear it shake.
