308 subsonic loads

Playing around with Trail Boss and X-Treme plated bullets with my .308
whent out to put some down range Fraday and had alot of fun, literally thought I was shooting a .22.
Anyone else tried this? Pretty cool.

I've done it with my Mosin rifle (54r) and my 223.

It is fun. Also; if you ever end up with a bad batch of primers that are too soft (or a box of plated bullets) it is something you can use them with.

Was using 800x.

Lots of fun. Try doing 300 black out, that's fun too. It can be hard to get gas guns to run smoothly at times

I'm all for reduced 308 loads. I have typically shot H4895 really low (about 35 grains) below manual starting loads. They actually cycle my LR308 well. And, accuracy was very close to 1 MOA in a semi-auto.

I'm curious about the accuracy of the plated bullets. Please led some experience here. The cheap bullets I shoot are the Hornady 150 FMJBT.

9 grains of trailboss with any 165-200 grain bullet is my go-to 308 sub load. Very fun.

I'm all for reduced 308 loads. I have typically shot H4895 really low (about 35 grains) below manual starting loads. They actually cycle my LR308 well. And, accuracy was very close to 1 MOA in a semi-auto.

I hit the 100 yard gongs consistently at angeles with a Mosin / 54r using xtreme plated bullets. Haven't tried more specific targets.

I want in on the fun so here goes.
What is "fun" about going subsonic on large caliber rounds?
I'm ready and willing to load sub sonic. I just want to know why.
On my 6.8spc, I'm always pushing the upper limits to find out how fast I can go before swipes, so the other end of the spectrum intrigues me.

It is almost like having a whole different gun.

People buy 22LR uppers for ARs. Its is something like that but just by using different ammo.

Also; less punch to the shoulder... as in none. They are probably good training rounds for new people...

Last of all; it is a way to use reloading stuff that won't work for regular rounds. Ended up with plated bullets that can't handle regular rifle powder? Or soft primers that would pierce with regular ammo recipes? Or some shotgun or pistol powder you don't know what to do with? Well; here you go. I had two of the three above so I started looking for subsonic recipes. Then when I started to use the rounds I found I enjoyed using them.

That red dot load is interesting. I've got a dozen lbs of it I've been trying to use up in 9/40/38/45.

308 would make it go quicker.
