Squib rod for stuck .22lr rifle...what do you use

Hi, i have a match chamber .22LR rifle and occasionally have to deal with a squib round stuck in the chamber. I can send a long cleaning rod down through the muzzle end but figured there must be another, perhaps better option so i thought i'd ask.

I can't always carry the long rifle length cleaning rod. I guess i could but it's not ideal.

Thought of taking a brass rod and cutting it down on a lathe but as you might guess i don't have a lathe.

What do you use at the range?

    Thanks

I have a Tipton carbon fiber .22 cal diameter cleaning rod, the brass thread adapter tip had snapped off in a tragic gun cleaning accident.

I cleaned up the exposed fibers and squared the end with a file, and now it's my range rod.

A length of 1/8" hard wooden dowel. Works.

3/16" hardwood dowel wold be 50% stronger, As long as not stuck to far into barrel.

Ive used wodden dowel cut down to 4-6" sections. For some reason they are stronger and dont break up that way.

Brass rods of various diameters from any hardware store have been used many times over the years. Cheap and don't splinter like wood.

By squib you mean fired rd that did not exit. ?

Of so can you shoot it out by making a double charge blank or just use a blank rd. ?

Just curious if this would do the trick. Im thinking you have a bolt gun here

Dewey makes adapters for one size of cleaning rod accessory to fit a different size cleaning rod.

I just cut the unwanted threads off, it leaves a blunt brass end for your cleaning rod. This way it doesn't jack up the threads on the rod and provides a nice blunt object.

True. But, the 1/8" is what I found in my garage. Only had to use once[so far!]

                        Similar to slugging a barrel.

If it's a length thing, you can get a sectional cleaning rod too.

I have a length of brass rod bought at a hardware store (In truth I have 3 or 4 for different rifle calibers, from .17 through .30. And a few short pieces for .38 and .45 handguns.)

I've seen too many deformed ferrules from clearing squibs using cleaning rods.

I have never had this problem with any .22 ammo...
Only mainly reloads, but too few to mention.

I have been wanting to get a brass squib rod for 9mm and .38/.357 in case it happens again.
