    Reloading Press

So I have been reading here on the forum regarding presses, I want to reload .40, .45, .223, 5.7x28 ammo, The dillion 650 looks like a good buy but expensive. I have seen some other ones like

Hornady Lock N Load Loader AP
    and

RCBS Pro 2000 Prog Press w/Auto Indx

or should I just wait and get the dillion?

    Thanks

I have the Hornady, which works well, and is cheaper than the Dillon. An added plus, is that Hornady is giving a voucher for 1000 bullets for each new Progressive press purchased.

The draw back with the Hornady is that the LNL AP is difficult to get along with their shell plates. Also, there are less bullet options this year compared to last for the free bullets.

Go dillon. The savings that you get with the Hornady you give right back when you buy the case feeder. Dillon 650 w/ case feeder is cheaper than Hornady with case feeder.

You get what you pay for.
You don't see people replacing their dillon presses with hornady or rcbs presses.
You do see people with hornady and rcbs presses replacing them with dillons though.

That ought to tell you something.

            Dillons are addicting.

              Nobody can have just one...

I was at Dillon on Saturday with a guy that I shoot with.
We were talking to the retail sales manager and it came up that between myself and my buddy (just the two of us), that we owned 14 dillon presses.
The dillon sales manager was imppressed.

If you are comparing list prices, but Hornady AP and case feeder can be bought way below list prices.

I have loaded on both Dillon and Hornady LNL. BOTH ARE EXCELLENT MACHINES AND NEITHER WAS DESIGNED BY GOD! I bought the LNL and could not be happier. IMHO, let me state that again, IMHO, the LNL is a better machine than the Dillon. The LNL gets compared to the Dillon 550 but, should really be compared to the Dillon 650. The primary reason I chose the LNL was the powder measure AND the auto-indexing.

                  Read this: http://www.comrace.ca/cmfiles/dillon...Comparison.pdf

It really is a fair evaluation.

If you want further info on the LNL, PM me and I'll send you my write up on why I liked the LNL. I used to post that write up but, I practically had death threats when I stated why I didn't CHOOSE the Dillon. People are passionate about their loaders and getting an unbiased opinion is difficult. I really do think the link I provided is unbiased. AND, I didn't write it!!

Is this your first time reloading? I dunno exactly where ya stand on this, but ya might have a hard time using a progressive to start with. I won't say that there's a lot of stuff going on all at once using a progressive, but it's a heck of a lot easier to learn the process, troubleshoot, and fine tune your techniques by using a single stage or a turret press.

Aside from that, now that i've purchased/used beginner presses, i now wish that i had a high end Dillon to really crank out ammo quickly. More automation means more avenues to trouble though. Also, you mentioned the desire to reload .223. Remember you're gonna have to trim those cases at some point....

This will be my first time I'm new to this. So far the dillion presses seem really nice. What would be the benefit of getting the 650 to the rl550b ? What types of process is there to trimming the cases?
                      Thanks
