Difference between 9mm luger and 9mm parabellum

I was given some 9mm ammo half is 9mm parabellum and half regular 9mm luger, now my question would be can I shoot both of these rounds out of my p226? I see that the casing on the parabellum has a ring around the top half of the brass, what is that for?

They are the same. No problem in your P226.
