    Glock 9mm success......finally............

I've been a reloader for several years. I know how to do it fine enough, but I'm no great master at it.

For a while now I've been having trouble dealing with Glock 9mm shot brass. When I reload it about 50% fail the chamber plunk test. So I'd have to run it through the resizer a second time or set them aside for plink/practice only shooting.

This last run of 9mm reloads (200 or so) all passed the chamber plunk test.

    WOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 100%!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I think it's the RCBS die.

    ***Station 1 - RCBS Sizer/de-Primer
Station 2 - Hornady powder through bell flare
    Station 3 - Hornady powder check/COP
    Station 4 - Dillon seater
    ***Station 5 - Lee Makarov 9mm crimper

Somewhere I read the Makarov die added a little more length to the 9mm resizing. Before I used it I was at about 50% plunk failure. When I added it there was improvement to 25%. So I wasn't entirely happy, but it helped a lot.

By happenstance I lost my Station 1 9mm sizer and deprimer die, so I ordered a new one, and figured I'd try something different with the RCBS.
I wasn't expecting anything groundbreaking, but I'd just give it a try.

That all said, I think it's the RCBS sizer and deprimer combined with the Marakov 9mm crimper that got me to resize the brass enough to work reliably in my Glock.

I'm not saying my 9mm reloads are good to go in a tight tolerance 9mm match gun, but at least I got my Glock running reliably enough without failure to chamber.

That's interesting. I've found glocks to be the most FORGIVING of all my 9mm chambers with regards to "good enough" reloads. Had you previously plunked these reloads in any other 9mm fo see if your failure rate was better/worse/same?

Not familiar with the idea of using a makarov crimp die. But without researching it I'm surprised that would help you. What is your OAL and crimp measurements?

Don't feel bad . About 18 months ago a niece and nephew came up .
They are both cops , brought their own 10 mm cop glocks.
They brought MT cases [ crimped - if I hd known , I would have
      bought some MTs ]
Anyway I got a Wilson gauge . Between the plunk , gauge and removing
primers and crimps , it took almost 6 hours . I had a few range pick
up cases and figured I could set up before they got here . Right !
One shot to left and the other low to right . Why not fix the sights ?
We know where to aim , so why bother ? Right someone else picks up
your gun - Anyway , I have looked at a few 10 glocks [ they did not
      " feel " right . ] . I /we don't own a 10 or 40
The 40 felt better but my range time came up . I am / was assuming the
same dies work on the 40 that I used on the 10 .

        ^^^ This

I've never had issues with my Glocks chambering reloads. I always figured the chambers are on the loose side.

I have a new S&W Shield that had issues chambering reloads and a Lee Factory Crimp Die corrected the issue right away.

I would give measurements, but recently reorganized the garage so I misplaced the calipers (hence why I lost and replaced by sizer/deprimer).

Yes, reloading for the Glock is easiest as 9mm. The only other 9mm I have is a 1916 made Luger, and that's very unforgiving.

I typically load them a little shorter, and crimp just enough to remove the flare.

Yes, Glocks generally are not very fussy when it comes to ammo. I have found, it's possible to over crimp 9MM, and swell the case below the crimp, as well as actually making the bullet looser in the case.

I recall at one time following some sizing die setup suggestions. Shortly after I learned to put the ram up and turn the die in until it contacts the shellplate solid and lock it down(pistol only of course). Some sizing dies have a nice bevel to aid in feeding brass but it limits how far the brass gets sized. Not sure if that's what was happening but good you have it fixed either way.

isn't the Makarov 9mm die slight larger in diameter than the 9mm Luger?

lee has an undesize 9mm die. i purchased when i got a alphawolf barrel. no need to do the research just go get a
reloading is like building tiny rocket ships. and testing how well they fly (or dont).

Awesome! I had no idea. Is that alphawolf barrel chamber tight enough to require the undersized sizing die?
