    Newbie ammo questions

New to handguns and just bought a new Sig Sauer SP 2022 9mm. Any suggestions on what ammo I should buy to practice shooting and to break in the gun? Also where are the best ammo deals?
(waiting patiently, only 8 more days!)
    Thanks

Walmart has good prices on 9mm. But don't use Tula Brand or even other steel case ammo. I've had primers blow out and casings jam in the pipe with a Tula.

Congratulations - nice pick for your first handgun.

I would try anything cheap but not steel cased.

115 grain fmj is usually cheaper than 124gr but there's no significant difference when firing them. I've actually never noticed a difference in reliability between brass vs steel vs aluminum; they've all worked reliably in my Glocks, Walthers, and XDs.

FMJs for range practice, don't spend more than $12-$10 on a box of 50. Hollows for self defense, buy a box of 50, shoot 20 or so to make sure they work good with your stuff. These will cost more than FMJ. Your best bet on ammo deals is to just shop around, and lurk the deals section of the forum. If you have it, check your local stores if they have websites or instagram/facebook/twitter/etc, some places tend to post flash deals n stuff

The guy that sold me the gun suggested that I not shoot FMJ for the first 200 rounds. Does this sound like good advice and if so, what should it use?

Did he give a specific reason?

Was he trying to get you to buy some SD ammo at the same time? Might have been looking to bump their sales numbers for the day. I may only have been shooting for a year or so, but I've bought enough new toys over the past year to have never heard anything like that before, in regards to pistols. When in doubt, you can always look in the manual. Grats on the new Sig btw.

They usually don’t recommend reloads, but never heard of a specific factory ammo, he’s trying to real in a sucker.

I bought it brand new. He didn't try to sell me anything and we talked about looking at ammo when I picked up the gun. When he said not to use FMJ for the first 200 rounds I got the impression he was talking about breaking it in. Is FMJ hard on new barrels?

no full metal or HP they only touch the lands where the Jacket is no difference.

maybe he thinks the FMJ is too hot?
