    Wadcutter dies

    I'm wanting to reload 38/357 full wadcutter.
    I have the Lee 4-die set.
    Do I need a different seating die for full-wadcutter bullets?

    Yes you should have a flat faced seating plug.

      As I understand it...

      I am sure any of these will work for your intended use as long as you get even seating pressure.
      If the projectile-face gets horked, I would assume that it shouldn't even be an issue, as long as they are seated evenly, and the edges of the projectile isn't getting mushed.

      I asked a similar question here... but it appears some images used are no longer Internet-ready:

      I have used the RN, SWC, and WC stems for this old die set I started with, but no real issues seating any of them, including lead SWC's, plated SWC's, and plated WC's.

      One thing I did notice right off the bat was that the medium loads with lead SWC's, and PC SWC's were hitting the 50' plate more, and it was almost all of them.
      Not so much with hotter plated... (but it might have just been me w/less flinch due to being loaded lighter?), but I haven't tried lead WC's yet.

      This is the only stem I currently use, as it came with the RCBS' current 18212 (Group B Dies), and it works for all of my... plated WC's, lead SWC's, PC SWC's, and plated SWC's:

      (HECK, I think I even used it on plated FPRN w/out issue...
      )

        I've had several dies that I use for full or button nose wads, the plug I use is generally intended for SWC (truncated cone is the usual designation) bullets.

        Pull the seating plug on your die and hold it to the face of a WC bullet. It will engage around the outer edge of the bullet face. Since the WC will be oriented using just the face, it's the outer ring that is important (as opposed to a SWC design that needs to have the nose enter the seating stem to align the bullet.) Ideally, there should be a flat (as opposed to a chamfer) where the bullet and plug meet - it won't cause problems, but can indent a ring if it's too sharp, as some round nose plugs may be.)

          Many dies have more than one or a reversible seating plug.

            I think that I have always used an old RCBS die that I had laying around with a WC plug for my WC loads... which doesn't help you at all - so why bother replying to this post?

            Because what will help you is buying/using either the Lyman M die or the new Redding Premium expander die - I swear by the Lyman but I have yet to use the Redding but I heard it is great, you will thank me later!
