    QuickLoad 45-70 Data

Am I reading this correctly? I just installed QuickLoad today and was looking at different loads for my 458 SOCOM.....and then decided to look at loads for my 45-70 using Winchester 296 powder since the 458 liked 296, I figured the 45-70 may be similar.....and it is from what I'm seeing:

    45.70.JPG

This load would be shot thru my modern Winchester 1885 Highwall, so the pressure looks well within what the gun will handle.

So I gotta ask as a QL novice, does this all look correct? I don't see 296 listed anywhere for the 45-70, so I'm wanting to make sure I'm not missing something here.....

H110/296 will be a poor choice in 45/70, look at manufactures data for the powder- don't use below 90% case fill.
Doing so may create hang fire conditions amoungest other problems.

I would consider H110/296 just an ok choice in 458 SOCOM especially when using mid length gas tube.

    be safe

Bad load. 296 is well known to need no air in the case to ignite.

If you use that load, I 100% guarantee you poor to no ignition. in the best of cases you'll have hang fires, but at 74% case fill, I'd be surprised if you can even light it off.

Reloader 7 or IMR 3031 is what you want for 45/70.

4198 is awesome In my 1895 45-70. 405gn bullets seem to be most common among shooters for accuracy across brands.
