    nosler ballistic dessapointment.....

i loaded 5oo nosler 55gr and im pretty dessapointed. i have been loading hornady only and decided to try nosler...maybe its my batch, but of the 5oo rd i loaded, there were 42 rds that had weird ogives, and of those 42, 26 had to be seated extremely low to the point where if i push the bullet, it will slide right in the case! i always crimp and i even crimp hard on these but it still slips! back to what i know works....hornady.

Using a full length resizing die? Not neck sizing?

You just learned one lesson as we all did. Do small batches & test to find the best combo of bullet, case, powder charge, etc...Don't load a big batch till you found the right recipe.

I loaded 500 rounds of .357 once, with too heavy a crimp. Pulling 450 bullets sucked...
Actually I only started collecting Milsurps 3 years ago. I think I might own about 24...They're cheaper than guns that will most likely never get the opportunity to kill somebody...

All the same case length? Was the 2 bullets the same specs?

All cases prepred the same, all are 1.748" its the bullet that was diffrent. The bullets are diffrent specs. Seems like some have a shorter ogive and some longer. Although very similar, their some 0.05x off of the rest. I think this gave it just enough room to hit the rifling yet I can seat it back any further..

did you buy that batch from nosler direct? they were selling those bulk packs a while back for a pretty good price, I wonder if they were dumping them because of problems and not labeling them as blemished or out of spec

I have never had any luck with noslers out of any gun. overpriced poor quality.
                  hornady all the way.

I dunno, I've never been much for guns. I mean, sure, we have the usual gun by the door, another near the TV, one in the kitchen, and another in the bedroom...and several others laying around. For the most part though, we keep our home free of guns. We are peace loving folks.

You may want to contact the Nosler and discuss about the problem. I think they are pretty good about it.
