    Processing bought range brass

Hey gang what is your process for once fired brass.

I bought 1,000 pieces of .380 range brass the over all length is all over the place.

Do you trim or just sort them into a few similar lengths.

My issue is every time i set the expander die up i find a long case that wrinkles the brass or a super short one that won't bell the mouth at all.

All of my personal brass is close because i usually bought the same brand and use the same gun

    Thanks Bob

.308 or 380 brass? Never trimmed a straight walled pistol brass and have loaded 30K or better.

          From like .669 to .698.

I have sorted some of it and grouped them into 4 categories within a few thousands , if the expander crinkles the wall i move it to the next larger group after resizing. But man what a Pain thought about getting an electric trimmer but there goes my cheep brass LOL.

Would it help you to sort by head stamp?

mind telling me what brand of reloading press you have. I have the Dillon XL650 and have not had any issues like you are describing. I sort my brass by brand only and run with no problems with OAL of .950 using EXTREME 100gr RNFP.

                        before I / we bought range brass - unsorted . Lots of 22s .
After sorting by caliber , i used the lee hand loader to check OAL .
This was APIA . At 5 a pound and plenty of time it was worth it .
Now they don't sell anymore and we just pick up certain sizes .
I / we don't have to trim very many cases -Lee hand trimer .

I honestly don't worry that much for handgun brass, unless I'm making a test string or want a certain good headstamp for defense/hunting loads

My exception is on rifle brass and I try to keep case length consistent and then I'll pull out my hand operated Lee trimmer.

All of my handloading is slow and single stage Lee / cheapo process and I catch mistakes much easier that way.
