CFE pistol 3.6g

3.3 min 4.0 max

Seems like incompleat burning i noticed it was spitting on a cpl rounds.

I have read that cfe likes to run closer to max to burn clean.



It cycled fine otherwise

Would a loose ish crimp cause this or just add a couple tenths of powder.

on light loads I notice soot but that is 45 acp is same for 380? could be.

That's a classic sign of low pressure. Bump the charge or seat them deeper.

Are there any good reference books out there that can or do talk about common indications like this? reference books are always great to have around to look things like this up.

.380 makes the same size hole in paper as a HOT 357 load [emoji16]

I keep bumping to inner web threads saying CFE is a bit on the slow side and need more powder to be happy.

That is a characteristic of CFE pistol. Most rounds get some blow by before the case expands enough to fully seal the chamber. On CFE the agent which reduces fouling makes that mark blow by stain on the case. I have always had it clean off with tumbling. Still, I have decided CFE Pistol is not my first choice in powders in part because of this.

"Their", but .356 plated vs .357 is a whole .001" difference, BUT with a .357 WC, or even SWC, the hole would be bigger, and clean-cut.
