    Reloading for M1 Garand

    Greetings all,

I'm planning on ordering an M1 from the CMP (while I still can), and I understand that the pressure curve of most contemporary commercial 30-06 ammo may damage the op-rod of the Garand. I plan on ordering some surplus M2 along with the rifle, but would also like to be able to reload--can anyone point me to some M1-safe load data? Also, are pulled M2 AP bullets legal to own in PRK? Finally, does anyone know if CMP sells .308 M1's (I think the Navy used them, maybe)?

    TIA.

CMP does not currently sell .308 M1's, but I don't know if they ever have, or will in the future. (I doubt it will happen in the future)

The last 2 I listed are ball powders and I really don;t like using them as they only fill the case to about 65% capacity and I like to get 75%+ for my Garands

for M2 loads (150gr FMJ M2 bullet) I use 47.5gr of either H4895, IMR4064, or IMR4895, CCI200 primer. With the case trimmed to 2.484"-2.487" and seating to the cannelure (I dont crimp) the OAL should average 3.330"

I too load 47.5g of IMR4895 & 150g fmj,cci 200 primer with Remington brass. It shoots about 3''-4'' groups in my springfield re-issue garand. I cant seem to get tighter groups with handloads but factory greek surplus shoots tight groups

Thanks for the input! Not to broach a taboo subject, but can I legally buy / reload the pulled black tip bullets?
