A question for the experienced reloaders and experts

Is is possible to load a 7.62x39 bullet in a 7.62x54R Shell? This is just out of curiosity.

I'm gonna go out on a limb and say nope. Bullet dimensions are different.

I'll go out on a limb and say yes. AFAIK, they both use .311" diameter bullets.

The groove diameter of both barrels is something between .310-.312". You can use a bullet meant for the 7.62x39 in the 7.62x54R but they will generally be too light to shoot to the proper POA. Bullets meant for the 7.62x54R are generally going to be a bit too long (& heavy) to be loaded in the 7.62x39 and still fit in the magazine or get any meaningful velocity.

If I had to use one bullet for both, it would be a ~150gr bullet. That should work acceptably well for both applications.

Yep. It would be fun to develop a good light load for it.
