If I have a rifle chambered in .308, can I shoot 7.62x51 thru it? or is this the same on how you can't shoot 5.56 out of some .223 rifles?

in .308 the pressure is higher than in 7.62x51 so yes it's safe to shoot in your .308 rifle. -
Shoot away.A 30cal will reach out and touch them. A 50cal will kick their butt.

While the pressure for the .308 is slightly higher in a bolt gun it makes no difference. Matter of fact CIP spec for .308 and 7.62 NATO is identical. So don’t sweat it
Gas guns are a different story and you should only shoot what the weapon was designed to shootComment
