    Winchester 244 powder...

Has anyone out there tried the new W244 powder? I have read up on it. It has been available to bulk reloading manufacturers, and now us.

I picked up a pound to try out for 38/357, 9mm, 45 ACP, and 45 LC.

I like the 160 gr bullet load for 45 LC.

Here is the same weight bullet in 45 ACP. Not as good.

Here is another load I want to try for 255 gr SWC in 45 LC.

I have shot DRT ammo before, and have been happy with this load.

Get detailed load data and specifications for DRT Ammo’s lead‑free rounds. Ensure safe, consistent ballistics and performance for reloaders.

Here is my 155 gr Hi-Tek coated SWC round. I loaded with 9.3 gr w244 powder. This is a 45 LC round.

Can't wait to see how these shoot out of my revolver and carbine.

      Winchester 244 powder...

I just tried 200 rounds with the W244 powder. I can say I like it. It is a "wetter" powder than Accurate #5. It tends to stick in the bottom of my powder measure once empty, but measures just fine.

155 gr SWC with 9.3 grains of W244 for 45 LC.

I do like the accuracy of this load. I think I will be loading more. It is a fairly clean powder too.

I was comparing it to CFE Pistol and found that it was making the same velocity/pressure as CFE Pistol in the 9mm while using a grain less powder.. I compared data here and there and it seems to fill a niche that Hodgdon powders at the moment are not filling. And it has the CFE properties also.

I like how it shoots in my 45 LC pistol. I will be trying it this weekend in a 9mm Pistol Caliber Carbine. It looks to be promising in a 9mm rifle.
