    Stilly's Pins (again)

I got hold of Steve not too long ago because I had bought the Franklin tumbler and felt the pins that came were going to be a problem.
They are small enough in diameter that it looks you could wedge two in the flash hole.
They are a bit short for me too.

The pin on the left is what came with the tumbler, the pin on the right is a Stilly Pin.

    Thoughts?

I use Stilly’s pins all the time, never had a problem with them. Tumble away.

The smaller pins clean the primer pockets and flash holes
        better .
I have had them stuck in primer pockets but more
problems with them sticking inside cases .
I used to put on top of vibrator , then in the dehydrator ,
now the dehydrator then the vibrator [I put them in a

store has a long nut called a rod extension that will screw
on the tup of vibrator ] I mixed silly's pins in with the little
        ones .

I rinse and dunk multiple times with the short pins. If you do it under water most of the pins will come out. Just separate a load into 3-4 when you rinse. L

I use the Frankford Arsenal stainless steel pins that came with their wet tumbler and I get good results. I use it with their rotary sifter and copious amounts of rinse water in a 5 gallon bucket and it works out well.

I used to try and just use a strainer type and I wound up having to inspect each and every case for those stinking pins! What a pain!

Haven't used Stilly's pins, but what I have works for me.

I got tired of digging out pins stuck in primer pockets with the small pin, started on the large pins and never looked back. If you can't get hold of Stilly, you can find them here:

My cousin has been reloading for years.
I went there to see how he does it.
Then I bought a FART and saw Stilly's pins and got them also.
I took them over to my cousin to try out and neither of us have ever used the small pins again.
Get the large pins and never look back.

If you use a rotary media separator there is no issue with the small pins sticking inside cases. Sometimes you get one or two cases with plugged flash holes but unplugging is a 5 second job.

I started with the small pins and had trouble separating them. I bought some from Stilly, and it's all I use now, huge improvement! It gets my brass at least as clean, maybe cleaner. Separating them is easy in a rotary separator, and they have enough weight that the surface tension from the water won't let them stick to the sides. The larger pins are the only way to go!

That's only the half of it.
The little pins get stuck to the sides of the tumbler, the lid also. Any place that there is any water tension, those little suckers stick to it.

As far as the little pins cleaning out the inside of a case, flash hole or primer pocket better?

I don't see that at all.

I should try them, I hate the little pins, but I'm addicted to how clean and shiny the brass is after using them. Since I don't decap before tumbling, I'm not going to see the benefits (real or imagined) of a super clean primer pocket.

When wet tumbling I always de-prime first. I worry about moisture not getting dried out in the primer pockets otherwise, perhaps causing a bit of corrosion, besides clean shiny brass, with clean shiny primer pockets is addicting, it looks like brand new brass.....And we all know how important that is

So, why are these called "Stilly's Pins"? Does he manufacture them....I think not, he bought em somewhere else and sold them here. They're not "HIS".
