COL for 375 H&H...need input from ya.

Reworking the loads for my CZ550 in 375 H&H. Up to this point I've been going right to the listed COL of 3.600" using Barnes bullets, CCI 250 primers, and 4064 powder. I'd like to start my loads from scratch while trying RL-15, which I've read good reviews about with this cartridge.

Here's where I need a lil help: I want to adjust the COL to improve accuracy. I've used the Lock-n-Load gauge, but I must be loopy or something 'cause I keep getting a measurement of 3.815", with the bullet touching lands. So, I figure I've got a leade of .215"...what I want to do is load 5 minimum at 3.600", 5 at 3.650", 5 at 3.700" and 5 at 3.750", then fire to see which is most accurate. From that point I'd start ramping up the powder content until I achieve the best accuracy. I've got plenty of room in the magazine for this, and according to the Lock-n-Load I should be OK.

    What do you guys think?

It doesnt matter really but, are you using the 300gr Barnes Banded Solids? Although I dont have a 375 H&H that is exactly how I work up my loads. Also, what effective range do you plan on shooting up to? If you talking under 200 yards I would first try a COL of 3.600. With that kind of a beast you will probably be getting more fluctuation in accuracy do to you flinching versus how close the bullets are seated to the lands. Plus your arm will probably be done after 5-10 shots anyways. Good luck.

Oh yeah ! I load up the 300 grain banded solids, too! Those will probably stay right at 3.600".

For the moment I'm only shooting at 100 yards (Yolo Sportsman's Assn). After I get these dialed in I'm gonna make a day trip up to Sloughhouse where they've got much longer ranges. An end point for me would be to get 1 MOA accuracy with a 200 yard zero. Once I get a chronograph and can determine velocities that zero could be extended.

You'd be surprised with the recoil. It's not a bruiser by any stretch. I've got nothing but high praise for CZ's weight and stock design for recoil attenuation.
