CA shooters are a funny bunch

I had two near new MEC 9000 shot shell loaders for sale at my club for about 6 months at a very good price. Our club has some serious shotgun shooters with newbies starting all the time. I figured I would not have a problem selling. Well, no-takers, no-lookers, no-"I'll-think -about-it", no-"let-me-check-with-my-wife", no-interest what so ever . I thought this odd with all the upcoming stupid ammo laws coming up. I figured SOMEBODY would be interested in avoiding the CA AMMO buyers license that goes into effect Jan 2019. Nope, nobody.

I posted on a free-state/flyover-state website and I had interested people within minutes. I sold both presses within 24 hours.

CA shooters are a funny bunch.

BTW, the reason I sold; moving to a free state soon and upgrading my shot shell loading to in include 28 ga.

What makes us funny? Birdshot is still $5 a box. Time > Money to a lot of people. Maybe a retired guy bought them.

Your telling me!!!!!!!! I have two presses, a single stage and a progressive press tons of powder primers casting pot casting molds EVERYTHINIG needed for reloading. I have spent all the money and gotten everything needed. I tell my friends all the time come over and I will teach you how to reload and what components to buy so that they will not have to worry about the CA licensing thing. BUT they would rather buy all their ammo from the store then learn anything about reloading. They are always telling me that they are to busy to reload or some other BS story but yet they complain about the upcoming law and complain about how out of state company's will not ship ammo to them. Yet they dont want to learn or even have an interest in it. Hell I have just as much fun reloading as I do shooting. I love to learn all the science behind what makes a gun go bang. I like working up loads for myself to see what makes my rifles more accurate. I like tinkering in the garage. I love this stuff. So your right Californians are a funny bunch. I call it lazy tho

I posted 4 Mec 9000's for free plus 22,000 empty hulls and 20,000 wads right here on CalGuns.
I wanted to give them to a youth shooting organization but that was a no go. I had two guys wanting them both named Louie and they both flaked on me.
If you ask full retail you will get some interest but if you give it away for free most here think something must be wrong with it as Free is no longer part of the American culture.
The picture shows my large garbage can and recycle bin full of top of the line once fired hulls. I did this weekly for three months to get rid of everything.
I gave one press to CalGuns regular KingAir.
I don't think CalGuns has any real trapshooter here.

Yeah but shooting $5 bird shot is boring after about 20 rounds. I can buy 100 rounds of bird shot at Walmart then take out the bird shot recast it into slugs and reload it back into the hulls and seal them back up like new and now I have slugs that are dead on accurate at 50 to yards even good to 100 yards. Hell I can open up the birdshot and make wax slugs for fun and shoot them to 50 yards with OK accuracy. But your right time/money. I just like the process of reloading.

I post a thread every month in the contributor lounge about the raahagues fun shoot. No one ever really shows interest.

Maybe I'm on too many people's ignore list.

I won money for last months shoot.

It's too bad you're not closer Lynn. I would have scooped that up in a heart beat

My experience exactly! I'm even a NRA Reloading Instructor. I've had many say, "Oh, I've always wanted to learn to do that!". And, when I offer to teach them they never follow through. Recently, I was talking to four friends that happen to be police officers . Each, is an avid sport shooter and spends time teaching their children. They all "wanted to learn" and asked me to teach. Long story short, they all backed out and never expressed any further interest. And, this has happened MANY times.

As far a time>money. I'm sorry that's crap. I worked, raised 3 kids (Now adults) and never had enough time-money. But, I taught 3 kids to shoot rifle, shotgun and pistol and they all shot competitive pistol, some NRA small bore rifle and NRA High Power rifle. I could have never done it if I didn't reload, excluding rimfire of course. When all five (wife included) of us were shooting local IDPA or USPSA matches we would go through 1000-1600 rounds in one afternoon.

With that said, only one of my kids likes to reload. My son! And, all three kids were taught and expected, to help reload their empty brass. The two girls still refer to me as their Ammo Daddy and think I should provide them with free ammo! Which is to be expected, I guess.

Also, over the years, I have had a lot of people ask me to reload for them and I politely refuse as the liability is too great! And, I do offer to teach them and I've had ZERO takers.

Basically, If you enjoy it and it's important to you, you'll make the time and learn. Prices of CA ammo are only going one place and that's UP!

When I say time vs money, its more your hourly wage. Of course, your off time is free but if you only have limited off time then it must have value. If you value your time at greater than $50 per hour then loading blaster ammo doesn't make sense. Specialty ammo sure, but 9mm no way. 9mm components give or take $.10 to $.12 per round. Factory is $.18 per round.

At 500 rounds per hour that is $30 per hour savings. If your time is free then you are making money, if your time is worth more than $30 per hour then its costing you.

Personally other than crafting gamer ammo I hate reloading. Some people find it a hobby, I find it tedious.

More like California shooters have less discretionary income with Jerry's hands in both our pockets and constantly looking for new ways to steal our money.

My neighbor, growing up, reloaded everything. He used to take me bird hunting, and he had me scavenging for empty brass and shotgun hulls. He had me reloading ammo, under his supervision, when I was in the 4th grade. Now, thinking back, none of my other hunting buddies in high school reloaded. During my time in the Marine Corps and law enforcement, I did not know anyone who reloaded. I had two hunting buddies, in the 90's that reloaded, but they have moved from California. I guess reloading is not as common as I thought.

I’ve offered classes for three years not one taker,

They either want free instruction, want to take ammo home because they think I’m a rental yard, or just flippin flake, so screw em I’m done.
