Any input on this basic re-loader?

    Hi there,

I have never re-loaded, nor know of anyone personally that does. I am thinking of trying it out on a small time basis. I have seen this re-loader on Amazon and it has great reviews.

Does anyone have any knowledge or experience with this basic set up?

    Thanks for any input.

Slow as molasses in the winter , practice at Wack-A-Mole game , will teach you the basics. Nice to have if your in a SHTF scenario , out hunting in the boonies and don't have a lot of rounds. Something to do when your bored

That kit will work, but IMO it's inefficient. If you're going to reload at all but aren't sure, I would go with one of the Lee Turret press kits. Get a used one but IMO its cheap enough new.

Worse case you can resell it for near what you got it for. Also, will set you up to reload other calibers.

I can't imagine doing any volume worthwhile on the kit linked.

        That unit is overpriced.
it will work if you want to load plinking ammo at about 50 rounds an hour and handle every primer with your fingers.

The Lee Classic Turret press with the cast iron base- it will auto index or not index based on changing one little thing. Much more repeatable in consistency and will turn out better quality ammo.

You will also need a powder scale as the dipper is not very precise. The kit just has a one size scoop and it locks you into a limited number of powders. Also no room for charge adjustments.

You can get a very affordable automated powder drop- lee auto prime for around $30 that allow for adjustment- but will still need a scale

Then there is the caliper to measure bullet seating depth and the Dies.

Realistically to load it is about a $200 up front investment
if you do not want to spend this then find a friend or club with the equipment so you can try the process before you buy.

And do not forget to buy a reloading manual- whichever route you go

I have them. I collect old ones. They are fun For the seriously low volume shooter.

More info is needed about your needs and shooting habits, but the short answer is go for it

You don't need to drop 1000's of dollars to reload and have fun.

Not a good choice. Will not full length size rifle brass which will lead to rounds that won't chamber. It only sizes the necks. I'd at least buy an inexpensive bench mounted press. Then you'll still need a case trimmer, calipers, a reliable powder scale, and reloading dies for your caliber. Or if you get hooked on reloading which you will, buying top rated equipment will save you money in the long run.

So in using the turret press, approx how many rounds can one do in an hour?

I can press 400 or so per hour. But my press is blue. [emoji2]
Sorry about the sarcasm. Watch the for sale section. Get a nice rcbs for under 100 or so. Dies can be had for 25 or 30 rcbs used. Rcbs scale and powder drop. The lee stuff will just aggravate you. Not all but some.
                  Harbor freight calipers are fine.

Dad and I started this way, probably around '75. They will work, but you will either get fed up and quit, or very quickly want something better.

Lee Classic Turret. Good starter system. Will serve you if you decide to do 100-150 per hour. Will resell easily if you quit (you won't). Multiple calibers. Cheap dies and replacement parts. Learning transferable to bigger faster systems.

Where are you located? Are you interested in loading rifle or pistol ammunition? what sort of volume do you anticipate? We can provide better information, if we know a bit more about just what you're planing on doing with your re-loader.

It's a great hobby in and of itself, with a modest investment, and a modest amount of skill, you can turn out ammunition that is the equal of factory new. With just a bit of practice, you can easily exceed factory ammunition!

Are you interested in saving money? or just having an uninterruptible supply? It's hard to save money, unless you are a high volume shooter, the kit you linked to is not for high volume shooters.

Tell us where you are, odds are someone will be close enough give you a hand getting started.
