Xtremebullets 55gr .224 with 'fake' cannelure; are they good?

I bought a bunch of these and they're not what's pictured on their site. Their picture shows a true cannelure, these have tiny superficial lines on the brass that poorly emulate a cannelure. The bases also aren't like what they show and these are visibly inconsistent. I generally don't crimp so I don't really need a cannelure, but I'm bothered by the misrepresentation and also wonder if these bullets are junk. I read a couple good reviews on them being as accurate as Hornady's, but some of those reviewers said the bullets looked just like Hornady's and these don't so I don't know if they were just wrong about the looks or if the bullets they're now selling have changed.--?

I don't expect bench rest accuracy, but I have no desire to load 5000 fliers so please let me know if these are worth keeping/loading.

I use them , yes your completely right about the faux-cannelure. That said they work great for metal silhouette plinking and paper punching. No SMK quality of course but I’d say for what you want to do ( which is pretty much what I use them for plinking ) they will suffice. I don’t crimp them either , biggest inconsistency I’ve found the actual length of the bullets themselves. Weights do vary a tad bit but not considerably . Hope that helps
If you want something done right , do it yourself.🇺🇸

I tried those. Try different powders and could not get a tight enough group to my liking.
Trying weighing 10 or 20 and see if they are close in weight. Also measure the length.
It's been a few years since. I tried those . QC could be better.

I switched to Hornaday. Much happier.
Been gone too long. It's been 15 to 20 years since i had to shelf my guns. Those early years sucked.
I really miss the good old Pomona Gun Shows.

Crap, I have 1000 of those. I have been using my stash of prior purchases.
I haven't even tore into the X-Treme .223 yet. I guess I should test them.

What kind of accuracy were you shooting for that they didn't make the cut? 1/2 MOA, 2 MOA? Did they all group erratically or some good and occasional fliers? Trying to get a feel for your experience and what I might expect.

I like the price of these, but I'm starting to move away from spraying cheap lead across the desert and want something that's decent. Hard to say what my satisfaction cut-off would be, but if they'll consistently shoot within 1MOA of what a Hornady can do then I might be ok with them.

It still bugs me that Xtreme misrepresents them and I might return them on principle. It also bothered me that they took over two weeks to ship out when they showed them to be in stock. The other bullets I've bought from them looked like their photo which makes me think that they know these wouldn't sell if people saw the actual product.

Have you ever compared them to others as far as accuracy? Hoping to come up with some kind of comparison of accuracy like they're within 'X' MOA of higher end bullets.

I fired a few at 100 yards and it was apparent that they were not going to shoot small groups.

They may be ok for general plinking and it has been suggested to shoot them at a reduced velocity.

I'm not real happy with them and will get some more Sierras or bulk Remingtons in the future.

Hornady has the best bulk bullets for 223.
Also the cheapest if you look around.
I don't know if I would waist time reloading something I already knew wasn't any good.

Too many fliers. I only benchshoot. I was using my AR with a 24 inch barrel. If i am going to take the time to reload . I want to at least achieve 1 MOA. If not just shoot factory ammo.
The Hornaday 55 g is way better for me. So good I bought a 5000 pc case.
The extreme bullets. If you don't mind a 3 inch group at 100yds go for it.

Extreme pistol bullets are good. But pistol is a lot closer range.

For a few dollars more the Hornady are infinitely better bullets. Both the FMJ and SP. FWIW the SPs shoot better for me out to 300ish yards so I use those

I used them quite a bit but when I got low on my supply I looked at buying more and realize they had raise the price. As others have said, I'll buy the Hornady for the price difference.

IMO Xtreme Bullets are good for pistol pills but when I reload my .223 and. 308 I use the bulk cheaper Hornady. Groups are good enough for plinking. Don't hunt so can not attest to performance in that field but since rifle is a long distance game I go with reputable and time tested companies like hornady.

Most soft points I've seen are flat based. Only time I shot FB they seemed more accurate at 100yds. than FMJ BT, but they were also high end bullets so not a fair comparison to bulk FMJ BT or cheap production ammo. I think a FB might be more forgiving to imperfections in barrels. It should be less harmful to chamber throats and case necks too.

I haven't opened the bag of Xtremes for a closer inspection, waiting to hear back on my email to them, but from what I can see and what I've read here they're probably going back. I'm a bargain hunter, but saving a couple pennies while doing all the work of reloading isn't worth it to me if it's gonna be crappy 2+MOA ammo.
