They are the Hornady 158gr lead round nose. Pretty soft so I dont want to run them too hot. Once I run through those I'm going to get some swc.

I would not run those hot. That would be asking for leading.

For the OP, if your goal is reduced velocities in 357 cases, slow powder (2400, H110, Lil Gun, etc.) is not your friend. You would enjoy similar velocities, improved consistency and economic savings with faster powders.

I believe the issue raised with H110 is that :

the Hodgdon Data Center shows 15g at 1418fps as a Starting load. Youch !
that's HUGE recoil with that high velocity. Above 1200fps, you're melting soft lead. I define mid range loads as 850-1000fps. The OP's description of mouse farts sounds like 700fps. If you like handloading, you will love a chronograph.

many handloaders believe you should never download H110 or it gets irratic. So if you use H110 expect to get top end high velocity only !

I always get a minimum of three manuals, one manufacturer online data center, a dozen personal recipes from handloader sites, and multiple magazine articles with recipes before I start a load. Throw a lot of it away. Keep the good stuff you know you can trust.
Do this for 357 magnum using 2400 and you will find excellent recipes for the ingredients you have.

You are correct. If you are using soft lead and want mild loads, 2400 and H110 are not what you are looking for.

If you are looking to load some warm loads using H110 you need to look at the RCBS Cast bullet manual number 1. and the Lyman cast bullet handbook the 4th edition. They have lots of loads using H110 and cast bullets. And these are not mild loads. But yes, you can safely use H110 in cast loads.
