    Internet ammo sales in 2018

I notice that the On Target shooting range in Mission Viejo has information on their website stating that they will receive and process our internet ammo purchases for a fee in 2018. There is very specific information about the process and a form of contract for the purchaser to sign. There is also a fee schedule for the cost to handle each transaction.

I found the info here: http://ontargetrange.com/ontargetrange/

Their instructions are very clear about having a signed contract with them before having your ammo order shipped to them. So be sure to read their instructions carefully and get it set up with them in advance.

BTW I think their fees seem reasonable, in light of the work they will have to do to receive and hold your ammo, process paperwork, collect and remit sales taxes, etc.--and make a bit of profit for their effort. And no, I am not affiliated with them--except as an occasional customer.

Anyway, good to know there is a shop here in OC that will handle the transactions.

There was another thread where this was brought up. I think their prices are reasonable given the paperwork, time, storage and price competition they now have to support. But it has just become UNreasonable to purchase ammo online for most folk. Massive group buys might make it worthwhile, but if I was just shooting 1k rounds per year (does anyone reaaly do that?), then LGS prices would rule.

So if I understand it correctly...

Pick it up 15 minutes or less after delivery, it's $5 regardless of shipment size.

Pick it up more than 15 minutes after delivery but before the 4th day, you pay their progressive transfer fees based on the size of your shipment.

From the 4th day on, you pay $20 per day for storage plus their progressive transfer fees.

      Does that sound about right?

        Basically, plus sales tax.

I think its all reasonable. Cases of ammo are bulky and heavy and hard to handle. I don't know how much square footage they have, but most shops don't have room to pile up a bunch of ammo -- ammo on which they are not making any profit. So they probably need customers to pick the stuff up promptly. If I were an ammo vendor I would charge at least as much.

Now, what are the fees for a face-to-face transfer? Just $5?

Is there paperwork to fill out... or do they just awkwardly look at the two of you while you make the exchange?

I've been up since 4am, so maybe I didn't quite catch if they mentioned it...

$5 is the fee if the vendor even wants to do it. As far as paperwork goes, no one knows yet.

I wonder how many gun store owners voted yes on this so they could collect a fee instead of having customers buy from cheaper online sources?

the fees and their little form sounds way too much I've never bought from them and never will.

I wonder how many times the NRA has helped write crappy law only to lie and fear monger to gain more membership?

This is why I'm not a member of the NRA. It's also why I'm not a member of AOPA even though I've owned a small airplane for 25 years.

Maybe it's not totally about the ammunition but about the Taxes. A few years ago you could buy camera equipment from out of state to avoid taxes. Then they went after Amazon. Ammo purchased out-of-state was cheaper because you could avoid the tax. Loophole has closed perhaps more for the tax than the restriction of ammo purchase.

The ammo restrictions were put in place solely to further restrict your ability to exercise your 2A rights. Any additional tax money gained by the state is just gravey for the State.

And the folks that benefit from the great work by NRA and CRPA to protect our 2A rights but fail to join at least one of them make me sick.

                              +1
I know a bunch of guys who are too cheap to send a few bucks to NRA, CRPA, Calguns Foundation or the campaigns of any conservative, pro-2A candidates for political office. But boy do they complain about all of the efforts of the political left to curtail our rights.
