What Handgun Caliber is your #1

RCBS puts out a list of their top 30 die set sales so you get an ideal what is currently popular. I was wondering what is Cal Guns reloaders top pick.

Curious about the popularity of handgun cartridges among reloaders? There usually isn't a dramatic change from year to year on the RCBS reloading die sales list, it is more of an evolutionary movement. Regardless, here is RCBS's 2012 sales list (first published in 2013) for their best selling handgun reloading die sets:

        .45 ACP
        9mm Luger (9x19mm)
        .40 S&W
        .38 Special/.357 Magnum
        .44 Special/.44 Rem. Magnum
        .45 Long Colt
        .380 ACP
The .45 ACP captures first place, which given the cult of the 1911 pistol and the price of premium defense factory loaded ammunition isn't surprising. The very popular 9x19mm and .40 S&W, widely used as military and police service cartridges are next on the list, followed by three potent revolver cartridges. The .380 ACP, for which it seems an ever increasing number of concealed carry pistols is available, rounds out the list. Courtesy of Chuck Hawks.

The first three handgun calibers I loaded for in 1982 were the 38, 9mm and 45 ACP. 35 years later those are still my top three.

But I do love the 44 Special and 45 Colt too.

Are we talking what I load and shoot most or my favorite caliber of 2017? I'm going with my favorite caliber of 2017 and that would be 2mm pinfire since, I recently acquired several and a few hundred rounds of ammo to go with them. What I've been loading and shooting most is 9mm just to keep practicing with my normal EDC and playing with my Hi Point Carbine.

1911 is not a caliber. LOL.

Most reload is .44-40. Most shoot is 7.62 and .44-40. Carry is .357 Sig but practice with .40 S&W.
.40 Smith and .357 Sig are in the same pistol; .40 is cheaper to practice with.

The only change in the 35 years was the addition of the 40 S&W 25 years ago. It has moved up to #3. The 38 Special / 357 Magnum was #1 for many years but now #4.

I doubt it would make the top ten handgun list. As I recall RCBS puts out a top 30 die sales. But it includes all calibers.
