    Primed Brass...

I have looked into primed brass for .40 S&W and can get roll sized primed brass for about 0.08/ea (in quantities of 10K). If I make my own it comes to about 0.055 or 0.06 each.

For 0.02 each it seems almost worth it not to bother buying brass and primers separately. Load it up in the case feeder and just add powder and bullet.

If one is loading up about 60K rounds in a year that is an extra $1,200 for the convenience though.

    I am conflicted.

You don't need to keep buying brass. I reload .40 brass until I lose it. I used to track the number of loads, but I don't think it's useful.

So buying in small amounts, my cost is about 0.03 for primed brass. You'd be paying nearly 3 times that. With sales and bulk, that goes down to about 0.019.

Buying a bucket of range brass is incredibly cheap. After a while it basically zeros out.

Most brass is good for many reloads. Even the high pressure stuff.

The nice thing is no processing, just load. I process all mine myself, but it does sound convenient.

If you shoot competitively you lose brass. It is just part of the game. i too have considered primed brass, but have not found it cheap enough.

I've thought about primed brass, but don't like giving up control of that part of the process. I'm sure it's fine, I just like to know, what primers, and are the primer pockets clean? Does it matter? Probably not.

Now, roll sized .40, That sound interesting.....

40 S&W brass is so cheap I bought a MFRB full and the guy simply charged me scrap brass price + shipping. I haven't even used it because many times I come home with more 40 brass than I shoot and I've been rotating through several coffee cans of brass for years. Same with 9mm.

I never track use on pistol brass. Shoot it until it splits or gets lost.

Rifle is another story, depending on what you do with it.
