    Primer seated deeper?????

I am reloading 9mm on a Dillon 650 with Federal small pistol primers. For some reason the primers seem like they are seating deeper into brass??
The brass on the right sits deeper. What would cause this? Would this be to deep for firing pin? This just started in the middle of reloading tonight. The first 100+ seemed but now every round come out with a deeper primer

2 different head stamps in that picture. Are all the deep ones the same head stamp.

I am sure someone with a Dillon will chime in.....

Just throwing out some questions, maybe it will help...

        Are these new/different primers?

Is anything involved in the priming process loose?

Test them out, if they fire they're all good. I had the same concern on my 650 when I first started reloading. I've shot thousands of 9mm as you have them pictured without an issue related to a deep seated primer. Load on!!!

Primer depth is one of the few things that are not adjustable on a 650. I always give that extra 'nudge' at the top of the stroke to make sure they're seated all the way. I've had probably 2 misfires that I had to hit twice in over 15 years.

You'll be fine. As Rwnielsen states, need to make sure that they get seated all the way. I used to have a heck of a time with 9mm and what I perceived as "light strikes", but it turned out to be primers not seated all the way and the first hit with the firing pin actually seated the primer where it belonged and the second hit fired it.

There are variations in different brands of cases as well as different brands of primers. A perfectly-seated primer will be slightly below flush with the case rim, but handloads don't have to be perfect to fire. The ones in your photo look fine. Just watch for high primers; they are not safe.

Primers which offer the least resistance when seating will seat deeper.

Deeper isn't a problem; higher is. Nothing to worry about.

If that were self defense ammo, it would worry me. You can have too much distance from the face of the breech to the primer lid. The one on the right does look excessive to me. If it is just target ammo, I would attempt to shoot it. Maybe mark those cases that it happens to and see how they fire. If not then toss them all.

Zq1 brass seats deeper than anything I've seen. So deep I was sure they wouldn't fire, but they did.

Deep is fine I think, it's the not fully seated ones that misfire.
