    Trimmer?

Ok, so I have been measuring cases and only reloading cases that were the same length or in batches of the same length putting aside cases that stretched to much to reload without a trim.

Well, my pile of brass to trim has now grown larger than my "to-be-reloaded" bundles. I need a trimmer.

Right now I'm using a single stage to reload and find that to be quick enough for .308 and .223 precision reloading. However, that being said I plan on going the route of a D-650 for plinker .223 and my pistol cals.

Knowing that pistol cals don't need to be trimmed---and reloading less than 2k rounds a month--- what trimmer would you all recommend?

I''m leaning towards the Forester Power Case Trimmer that uses a drill press.

My concern here is that my drill press (Harbor Freight quality) won't have tight enough tolerances for the case trimming because it uses the drill press stops for cutting depth. But in testing using the shaft stop I get very similar depths in some metal scrap I was using.

So anyone used one of these? Other than a Giraud Trimmer--- have any other suggestions?

Well I see the trimmer you are talking about, but I can't seem to find the Sinclair camp mount.

Also it seems this is a manual trimmer...Is that the only way to go and still expect sub-moa accuracy?!

      Thanks for the help!

Try these guys. I just received mine directly from them. I also purchased the part that you chuck in your press to hold it. Haven't used it yet, but looks like it will be fast and efficient.

if you can chuck the lee trimmer in your drill press then the little 223 guide will bottom out on the table and prevent overtrimming

then you need a deburing tool or as rcbs calles them a (burring tool)

Ok, so not the replies I had hoped to get....

The forester depends on the accuracy of your drill press.
It sounds like you would need to buy a much more accurate drill press for it to suit your needs.

You could probably rig a hornady or rcbs trimmer sideways in your drill press and then depend on the trimmer's stop to get a more accurate trim length.
This will require some very creative bracketry to get those trimmers to stand up.
I would recommend some sort of flexible coupling so you don't have to be concerned with spindle alignment.
This will take a floor-model drill press as it would be way too tall to fit into a bench model drill press.

Look at the Dillon trimmer as well, it sizes and trims at the same time.

I was looking at the dillon trimer $200 plus the dies .223 $40 .308 $40. But then I would have to do something else for 6.8. Man, dillion makes expensive things. I will trim once I have to, so I just I will have to buy it.

                        Same deal with the Giraud.
                        $400 with one case holder.
$30 for each additional case holder

The difference is that the dillon sizes while trimming.
The Giraud chamfers and deburrs, but does not size.

It doesnt really matter that it sizes since I have all the dies already, I think it would just be super simple to use on a progressive with a case feeder.

It was another thread but someone was saying that it is faster to trim all cases then to run them through a case gage and trim only the ones needed. From reading the info about the trimmer I would disagree. If I were to trim them all, I would have to tumble, lube, run them through the sizer/trimmer, then decapp and expand neck, then tumble and load. Thats an extra time through the press. Otherwise I would just tumble, lube, size/decap, case gauge, tumble, load. It may take longer to deal with the ones that need to be trimmed but I could just set those aside for now.

It does not take ANY longer to size and trim compared to just sizing.
The cases have to go through the press to be sized anyways.
You just put the neck expanding die in one of the un-used stations so the case gets expanded as it rolls through the stations.
Decap in station 1, trim in station 3 and neck expand in station 5.
If you were doing it on a 550, just size and trim on the first pass.
You can decap and neck expand right before you charge and seat.
