Savage 12 LRP 6.5 CM incorrect chamber length?

I have the same rifle and love it. Best advise I can give is get on the phone with bot Savage and Hornady. I would like to hear how each one explains this problem. I load at 2.800 OAL and well of the lands. -
Do you have a borescope? Most factory rifles have long throats. Maybe you have a rough cut chamber and that is what is causing the binding and scratching? Rifling marks on the bullet should look more like 4,5 or 6 grooves, not marks around the bullet like in your picture. try using some permanent pen and coat a loaded round and stick it in the chamber and see what the marks looks like and post a pic.
Don't contact Hornady. They suck and will be all blame on the rifle mfg or you.Comment

The scratches from lands should be very uniform and the ones in your picture look like burrs on the lands from chamberings the barrel.
Are all sides of the bullet the same?Lynn Dragoman, Jr.

Do some research. The Hornady 140's have always been problematic. I'll try to find some other posts that discuss it. I had the same problem. The bullet got stuck in the barrel and when I pulled the bolt back, it opened it, with the bullet in the barrel and the powder would come spilling out.
It isn't the rifle. It is the Hornady 140's. If you reload, you should for 6.5 creedmoor. I'll see if I can find some prior threads on Snipershide.

So, how is it the bullet? Bullet diameter is larger than 0.264"?Do some research. The Hornady 140's have always been problematic. I'll try to find some other posts that discuss it. It looks like the throat/neck area is rough in your chamber. Also, measure the diameter of the bullet. I am curious if it is greater than .264 (6.5mm).
This, in my opinion, is the best way to find the lands. Tools like the Hornady OAL gauge put the bullet fairly deep in the lands before you feel the bullet stop. You are most likely 0.020-0.050" in the lands with the Hornady OAL gauge.
This method requires you to remove the ejector and firing pin so that these two things are not affecting the "feel" of the bullet touching the lands as you close the bolt.

If you had a bore scope, or did a chamber casting. You would without a doubt find that the leade/throat portion of your chamber was improperly cut. Likely chatter marks from a funky undersized reamer are causing the longitudinal scratches on your bullets.
Doubt that Savage will help at this late date. But trying will cost nothing.
If they won't deal with the issue. I suggest you contact CG member "kcstott" he is down your way, in National City and can likely point you to someone local to fix the issue.
Throating a chamber is not a big deal. But should not be attempted without experience and understanding of what is required.

this right here ^^^i really doubt theres a problem with the bullets its a F'd up chamber...any smith should be able to stick a bore scope in the barrel while you wait and tell you whats going on...fixing it may be a wait.If you had a bore scope, or did a chamber casting.
