    556 vs 300 BO powder

    Hey all,
Came across my late father-in-law's reloading stuff. He walked Alaska and reloaded for the 44 mag. I plan on taking it from here. Is there a fav powder for 300 BO and 556? Two different ones ok. I'm good on dies and such, just looking for powder opinions on these rifle loads.
    Thanks, Saddleback

Right now I use LilGun for the 300 and varget for 556. After the LilGun is out Im going to CFE black. You cant use the same powder. I also use small magnum primers for the 300

I think it would depend on bullet weight for each cartridge.

.223- for lighter bullets up to 63gr I use H4198 or H335, heavier bullets I use varget.

300 BO- I don't shoot, if I did I would use CFE blk.

The 2 easy answers are CFE 223 for 5.56 and CFE BLK for 300 AAC.

These will do most all the bullet weights.

2nd choice for those are IMR 8208-XBR for 5.56 and IMR-4227 for 300 AAC.

If your loading the 300 subsonic with heavier bullets give AA1680 a try.

            W296/H110 for the 300BLK

            h335,h322,w748 for 223

Ball powder meters well, it's winter time.

cfe 223 for 556. And LilGun for 300blk, its surprisingly versatile for that cartridge. Ive loaded both supers and subs.

H110 for the Blk. I have no idea why anyone would want to load subs for the 300Blk in CA since you cannot suppress it. I use a 125GR TNT for most of my loading, although I do have 115, 150, and 168gr loads.

CFE223, AR Comp, TAC, and Exterminator are great for 223.

I like shooting 200+ gr subs. I do get to go to AZ and UT.
