FAST OC in the OC. Not that far from SD -
I won't try to talk your buddy out of a course if one is available but...
I had an experienced friend show me the basics and then I did a ton of research, mostly on Calguns. As a result I'm mostly self-taught, thanks in large part to many people here who took the time and had the patience to answer my sometimes stupid questions.
I got my press from a fellow who started reloading at age 12 and told me if a 12 year old can do it, so could I.
Reloading isn't hard or dangerous in and of itself, but it demand attention to detail, focus and an obsession with safety. Class or no, your friend should buy a reloading manual first, read the introductory material on reloading, and assume all of the precautions are mandatory and not suggestions. Then he should look for all the stories in this forum about other people's mishaps.
Then he should take the class.Comment

West Coast Ammo in Temecula has them, as does Escondido Fish and Game
Watch the newsletter for EF&G dates.

I NRA Metallic Cartridge Reloading Class (1/6/2018) Although ammo has plentifully come back to the market, there are California restrictions (Prop. 63) that have been generated to hinder such purchases. The opportunity to learn reloading techniques that will allow you to produce timely, consistent, accurate ammunition while receiving NRA certified reloading instruction is available on Jan 6th, 2018.
The First Part is strictly academic in structure and conducted at the EF&GA meeting hall. This session, 8A.M. on Saturday, Jan 6th, 2018 and will last until approximately 12 noon.
The Second Part is a “Hands On” reloading bench experience. This session generates the practical, detailed experience necessary while you successfully complete a number of your personal reloads.
Scheduling the second session will be at a mutually agreed to time and date. This scheduling will be completed during the 1st session.
The cost is two tiered: EF&GA members = $100; non-members = $110. For those individuals beginning and are without any reloading supplies (empty cases, powder, primers, etc...) a $10 surcharge will be applied. Prior registration and a $20 deposit is required to secure a place in this class.
Registration is necessary and limited. For more information, contact Elvio Marchi at elvio1@cox.net or 760-734-3942Originally posted by ACfixerthere's plenty of sissies and snitches roaming the hallways here.Comment

I do classes but have yet to have any serious takers. i will not be able to administer a course until mid January at best
Mostly because of my policy on who keeps the loaded ammo if using my components. that or they think this is a rental fleet of presses.
For $100 you get a Lyman manual and four hours hands on from safety to case prep to component selection and the single stage load process on what ever it is you are trying to load. If you bring your own brass, powder, bullets and primers, you can take your loads home. If you bring a rifle and a bullet you want to load I can also show you how to measure seating depth to lands with the bullet you desire to use. Give you that data all on a sheet for reference. I have dies and shell holders for most common calibers. I do not have any 6.8 spc, 300 blackout or 458 socom, or any other odd ball brand new calibers. 27 years reloading experience. and I shoot long range F class TR so I know how to make very high quality match ammo. and I know how to tune loads with a minimal amount of ammo being used to test.
rifle calibers I can instruct on.
.22 hornet on single stage

seriously I've had one guy just one,
Guys talk a big game, say they are interested and then find out my presses are not for rent, Meaning they don't want instruction they just want cheep ammo, Or they think the class should be $20.
I'm providing access to about $5,000 in reloading gear and over two decades of experience,
Oh and if you show up with your own book, I knock $30 off the fee. Money I didn't have to spend.
But still No takers. Oh Well I have better things to do than cater to that crap.Comment
