Strange seating problem with nny brass

I have loaded this nny brass once before without a problem but this time using the same 174g Match Kings after full length sizing I'm having a shoulder crushing issue. No issues with the same setup and LAPUA brass.

The neck tension looks to be .002" on both types of brass.

    Any thoughts ?

How many times has the brass been shot? Is there a "dreaded donut" inside the neck?

7.62x54? Try lubing the inside of the neck. Tight expander to neck fitment.
What diameter bullets are you using?

Have you measured the bullet diameter, it appears that the bullet is too large for the case, or the expander is not opening up the neck of the case enough.

Flat base or boat tail bullets? If they're flat base, is the brass chamfred well enough?

              SMK's are 311"

Just sized 30 older LAPUA cases and charged no problem on the same equipment.

Are the PPU brass trimmed to same OAL as Lapua brass?

Have you tried re-adjusting the seating die for the PPU brass?

Have you tried using mica/dry lube on the bullets to help seating?

the base of the brass looks bent at an angle in the photo. That isn't good.

Trying to cover all the bases. Ran out of time. so I'm busting out a new box of LAPUA cases so the guests can have a problem free test drive of the PU rifles.

                    Thanks for all the input.

The two pieces on the right have some odd deformation a quarter of the way down the neck. What does running an empty piece of brass through the seat die do? Try seating by really small increments (using the handle - I wouldn't readjust dies to do this) to see where in the seat process it is screwing up.

What type of press are you using? It looks like some sort of indexing problem.

full length sizing I'm having a shoulder crushing issue.
Most problems on the Internet when it comes to crushing the case at the shoulder is caused by seating the bullet. I suggest the reloader seat the bullet first and then crimp after seating.

I do not crimp bottle neck cases, Lyman said crimping while seating is a bad habit, problem: they said that before the Internet, and then there is Dillon, they sell seating dies and crimping dies. I do not use tension, I use bullet hold, when it comes to bullet hold I want all the bullet hold I can get.

I use a LEE crimping die after seating as a separate step after setting AOL

i have close to 40 more once fired nny cases and will go back over the process next week.

As LEE is not making a 7.62X54r collet die at this time and not taking special orders so I'm going try a LEE .308 collet die shimmed off the shell holder .120" and turn the mandrel for .002" fit then crimp just a bit. It's also possible the case neck is thicker on the nny and I will check that before I start. I have .310" reamer left from making 7.62X25 cases from .223 LC brass so just one mor thing to check We did have very good results with LAPUA brass but our range has eliminated the 300 and 500 yard targets so it's carp shoot on how things will work out. This rifle used to be spot on at 500 yards in 2009 and seemed good at 100Y but what good is 100 yards ?
