    510 DTC Ammo after 2018

Hi all. I had a few questions about the 510 DTC ammo:
    1. Is Mr Kubota the only source for the ammo?
    2. If there are no DOJ approved providers for the ammo, what happens to our source of 510 DTC ammo after Jan 2018? I bet Mr Kubota and other private party suppliers would not want to go through with the hassle of getting that approval? I hope I am wrong though.

The reason I am asking is because I am thinking of (again) purchasing a 510DTC rifle, but do not want to be stuck with a very expensive 'club' because there will be no ammo supply for it in a few months!
    Appreciate all the input/help.

No one knows what 2018 is going to bring .
You should be able to order ammo , but plan on paying more .
As for the gun [ I don't know what it is ] if ammo gets hard to
find buy - you might wait for someone to sell one because of it .
If you really want one , start buying cases now . Check on the
Lee site for a hand loader - they are really slow but a good way
        to learn reloading .
There are a lot of us that use the Lee hand loader for hunting and
        building up a round .

NOOO...I don't think you are going to reload 510 DTC with a little Lee hand loader..you will need a big press for them boomers

It's a 50 BMG based round to answer the question of how to get a legal 50 BMG in California. it's ballistically identical to the 50 BMG just with some slight changes that prevent a 50 BMG from being chambered in the .510 DTC chamber

If you can afford to buy .510 DTC ammo you sure as hell can afford to buy the dies and press to do the same job. and you'll save about $3 per round reloading.

Dies will cost you $350, Press $300, Bullets are $2.5 each for the good stuff, shell cases are $2.50 each more or less. powder is $30 a pound more or less.

Buy 200 pieces of brass, get a factory load out of the book and load. Stay about 10% away from max since you won't be loading for accuracy.

                  I looked it up .
                  RefReloading50DTC < Gunwiki < TWiki
Looks like a version of the 50 big .
I have the 50 DE and have been told not to shoot at some ranges .
I do load for all my DE's , but now I shoot the mostly the 9 and 45 ACP
                  now [ a lot of 22 lrs] .
To be honest , my nephews are the only ones who have shot the 50 in
                  the last 2-3 years .
From what I just read , the gun [ shorter ones ] will / should fit in most
                  gun safes .
Not sure if you can even buy a new one in Calif . Used - who ever is selling can probably give more info .

                    Thanks for more info .
I agree , just buying a scope will probably be more than a reloading
setup . I went thur 4 scope on the DE's and now just use open sights .
I am not going to buy one , but are they legal in Calif ?

All of the 510 different versions are California legal.
The original was designed by Eric Danis from France who is a regular at Shot Show.
They shorten the 50BMG case a 0.100 then blow out the taper so you get the same case capacity as the standard 50BMG.
You can buy a brand new Lee Classic Cast press for $110 at Midway. The dies are made by Lee and you can get them on E-Bay for $75-100.
The only thing unique about loading the big cases is seating the primers on the top of the press is a touch different.

Lee and RCBS both make big presses, lee is 1.25, RCBS I believe is 1.5. Keep that in mind when ordering or buying dies.

I have the LEE press. It is plenty strong.
