    RCBS Ultrasonic case cleaner 2

Been looking at getting an ultrasonic cleaner after using industrial cleaners, at work, in the past. Found Midway has the RCBS #87056 cleaner on clearance, for $176. This is the larger of their cleaners, with two transducers, 6.3 qt capacity. Not very many reviews on this model, anybody have any input? For the price, I'm jumping on it. Seems to be the best price I've seen for it, and thought I'd spread the word, plus see if anyone had any input on this model. Can't figure why it's on clearance...

Are you looking to clean brass with it? or gun parts? disclaimer at the bottom of Midway's page says you can use to clean but it'll just clean off carbon. it won't tumble it shiny.

i missed the discount. will put this on my wish list

You didn't miss it. I still see it under their clearance/reloading tab, for $176. I must have lucked out, because it doesn't qualify for their free shipping. But I didn't get charged for it--I ordered other stuff that DID qualify for free shipping and I think their system burped and let me get it shipped free, too!

Mine arrived today--I'm happy I got it. Been wanting an ultrasonic cleaner for awhile, for various cleaning needs. It is a bigger unit--1.6 gallon capacity and needing about a gallon for minimum fill level. It's about the size of a large toaster oven. Comes with a stainless basket and also a smaller stainless tray, which you can use to minimize cleaning solution use by immersing that into the larger tank filled with plain water. Looks like it will fit a handgun frame with no problem.

Note that this unit has dual heaters AND dual ultrasonic transducers. I think almost all these hobby-grade unit's heaters are more for temperature regulation and you should probably fill with pre-heated water.

i think RCBS has cleaning solutions you can purchase. Or rubbing alcohol mixed with some warm water.

I'd just use maybe some alcohol and possibly some dishwasher fluid...Dawn.

although i've only used one once in our lab at work. they mainly used warm water with alcohol

White vinegar works well for brass, some people add dishwashing liquid to it.

I got some of the Hornady Brass concentrate, as well as their gun parts cleaning concentrate, to start off. (The RCBS was out of stock and the Hornady stuff was on sale.) Depending on what I'll be cleaning I'll also try out various home brew concoctions.
FYI, the Hornady brass cleaning concentrate contains citric acid; the parts cleaner has Dipropylene Glycol n-Propyl Ether and Diethanolamine, in case anyone was interested.

More of a FYI, in case anyone was interested...

One of my former co-workers sent me the info on some of the ultrasonic cleaning sources that we used in the major aerospace company we used to work for.
The cleaner's parent company is called Emerson Industrial and their line of ultrasonic cleaners and solutions was called Branson. No idea what pricing would be, for the small quantities we would use, as consumers.

FYI , I ended up buying another small one [ harbor freight ] because I used WD-40 in one [ cleaning gun parts and reloading dies ] Anyway , if you then go back to water , WD-40 floats to top .
I mainly use to clean the little space at bottom of cases . About every 5th reload and don't want WD-40 in there .
For WD-40 , Strain with coffee filters to clean .

Is the tub big enough to hold a complete ar upper with 16 inch barrel?
                        Thanks

If you use just water , it will get into places you can't see . You need to really dry good or you will have rust .
Smaller parts go into the dehydrator or the trunk on hot days .
Disican will dry the air, but not the parts
