Anybody load .35 Remington?

Just picked up a real nice 1957 Marlin in .35 Remington with a micro groove barrel. It's a new caliber for me and I am looking for any tips on it. Any pet loads out there? Nontoxic? Trail Boss or cast mouse fart load?

Probably just going to pay with it at the range but also think it might do duty as a camp gun and hog hammer.

I have an ancient Speer manual from about 1963. I will check and see what it says.

Yup.....1964 Speer manual. This data would have actually been used by lots of handloaders unlike modern data LOL.

Anyhow...needed an excuse to drag out grandpa's old manual.

Mind sharing your results down the line? My 336 is also microgroove.

I have...and take this ^^^ fella up on his offer. The brass is getting tough to find, even the proper rn .358 slugs were tough and I had to hunt gun show tables and backwoods gun shops to find them. A friend had his grandpas old rifle that he couldn't find rounds for and that's how I got into it. Took two years for me to get a hundred prices of brass together so we could make up a batch. I enjoyed it quite a bit and now am keeping an eye out for a nice lever action in .35 Rem. It's an interesting caliber and is said to be a legendary deer round. Was pretty big until .30-30 Winchester came out iirc.

Check my log and we landed on 35.7 gr of imr3031 using a 200 gr Hornady rn slug. Work up your own load though and always start at suggested starting loads with an old rifle.

I shoot a 14" barreled TC Contender in 35 Remington and for fun plinking, I use the jacketed .357 pistol bullets in the 158 to 180 grain weights, they are cheaper than the .358 rifle bullets and are plenty accurate to 100+ yards. Powder choice is IMR 3031 for me.

I believe Hornady manuals have data for these bullets in the handgun section for .35 Remington.

I use what they call ball 2 .."BLC(2)"... granted it's not the latest kool kid powder but I like it.
I stay away from winchester brass esp in the 35rem.
It may be better than it used to be ... I wouldn't know.
But win 35rem brass used to give me all kinds of troubles.
You can run into different brands of brass in 35rem requiring different shell holders also.... at least with Lyman

Lyman manual has the info. My brother has a contender in 35 rem. it clears out the local indoor range when you light that one off.

I bought a Marlin 336D in 35 Rem in 2000 and have loaded for it for the last 17 years. My latest load due to the lead ban is a .358" 200 grain Lever-Rex all copper bullet made by Maker Bullets. Remington brass, H335 powder and Fed 210 primer. 2.475" OAL. Inch and a half accuracy at 100 yds. Hope this helps.

Definitely a caliber on my bucket list! Love the idea of using 357 bullets (already have a lever action in 357). But no modern guns in this caliber?

Why are we dragging out books from the 40's and 50's?? My 47th Lyman has data as does my 13th Speer manual, This is not that obscure of a round guys. Or maybe my books are older than you guys. Speer copy right 1998?? Lyman 1992?

I too, found a nice Marlin 336 on the orphanage rack in .35 Rem., mfg in 1980 JM marked.
It is now one of my favorite rifles.
Then I found that ammo and brass was a bit hard to find, so I picked up some fired brass off eBay and Gunbroker. The problem there is you won't know if the brass is once fired or if it was reloaded many times. Fortunately you can buy brand new Hornady brass in .35 Rem. I bought about 200 cases for reloading, in addition to some boxes of factory ammo, so I have enough supplies for 500 rounds or .35 Remington.
My go-to powder is IMR4064 with 200 gn Sierra bullets. Hornady also loads Lever Revolution ammo if you want an excellent hunting round.
Topping off the rifle with Skinner Sights makes this a fantastic lever gun for hogs.
